Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this role, the Manager of Engineering is responsible for maintenance support assignments at Amgen’s manufacturing site in Ohio. The position is a key role in the Engineering group and the candidate must manage and/or apply extensive technical expertise in the coordination of multiple, sophisticated, non-routine maintenance tasks of systems.

Engineering & Maintenance Management

  • Key responsibilities will include providing engineering and maintenance services and support to pharmaceutical packaging lines.
  • Lead a team of experienced maintenance and engineering personnel across Amgen commercial operations for product assembly, label, and packaging.
  • The position is expected to bring to bear this team to support equipment maintenance, trouble shooting, triages, and process improvements.
  • Ensure on-the-floor support of engineering and maintenance to reduce production downtime. Provide leadership and technical expertise for maintenance strategy for equipment and systems.
  • Recommend and support improving maintenance instructions, including but not limited to Job Plans, Spare Parts Lists and PMs.
  • Own selected maintenance SOPs and recommend and implement improvements. Recommend and implement improvements to the timing and coordination of maintenance activities. Provide field support to identify and resolve equipment and maintenance-related issues.
  • Provide support to improve safety, compliance, efficiency, and effective execution of maintenance work orders.
  • Evaluate equipment and instrumentation maintenance and failure history and recommend and implement improvements.
  • Manage selected maintenance contract service providers.
  • The Engineering Manager is tasked with facilitating effective communication across the Amgen commercial site network by utilizing all collaborators and delivering on technical improvements.
  • Site communication will occur during daily Tier meetings, escalation processes, and vendor coordination, among other methods, to engage all team members and achieve technical advancements in communication, etc.
  • This position requires the application of diverse and advanced engineering and scientific principles in support of commercial GMP Final Drug Product (FDP) operations in the Amgen Ohio manufacturing facility.

The Engineering Manager position works with the Senior Manager of Engineering at the Amgen Ohio facility.

The position is expected to travel approximately 15%.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in engineering or related discipline & 3 years of related experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline & 5 years of related experience
  • Associate degree in Engineering or related discipline & 10 years of related experience
  • High school diploma / GED & 12 years of related experience

In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation or resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Educational background in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related technical degree
  • Experience repairing mechanical equipment in a manufacturing environment (experience with packaging equipment preferred)
  • Strong mechanical proficiency and trouble shooting skills
  • Understanding in PLC, Computer Serialization, Packaging Equipment, Vision Inspection System (Cognex Vision System and Systech Serialization)
  • Excellent organizational, project management, problem solving and technical writing capability
  • Strong communication: verbal / written, collaboration, influencing and facilitation
  • MS Office: Word, Excel, Power Point

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
