The pay range is $69,000.00 - $124,200.00

A role with Engineering and Technical Design means being on a team of engineers and technical designers who create products that truly embody the intent of Target-owned brands. Can you ensure that each product has that just-right mix of style, quality and value? Do you love to create technical product solutions that help meet strategic business goals? Are you interested or have experience working within nursery/kids/teen products? Then you’ll have success on our talented and innovative team. Here, you’ll partner with our quality and compliance teams to understand performance testing protocols and develop products that meet them. Your work can help identify technical specifications, quality, and safety standards like raw materials, function, construction details and dimensions. You’ll leverage collective expertise to suggest improvements to cost of goods, assembly, sustainability and ROI. You’ll also collaborate with vendors to ensure that the brand vision is clearly understood and successfully brought to life with every product we offer.

As a Technical Designer on the Kids Home Team, you will support and be responsible for the product design and development process. This requires a diligent approach to workload and maintaining timely communication with cross functional partners. You will be responsible for understanding business initiatives, product functional requirements, and performance expectations to ensure fit and quality consistency of the product. In addition, you will work collaboratively with cross functional partners including vendors and PSQA Quality team for effective technical specifications and product quality and safety standards. You’ll also support and be responsible for timely sample evaluations, ensure consistency and quality levels are met, and have an approval of all supported products. In collaboration with both internal and external partners, you will co-develop products, ensure the brand vision is executed, and identify and address manufacturing and quality issues. With regards to research, you will be responsible for understanding the competition and benchmarks of the kids categories and developing innovative product solutions.

About you:

  • Four-year degree Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Product Development, related field, or equivalent experience

  • 4+ years of relevant experience

  • Knowledge of testing, safety and legal requirements for consumer products

  • Knowledge of both soft and hard raw materials and their performance and usage

  • Have experience or interest working in kids product development

  • Strong knowledge of various 2-D and/or 3-D CAD software packages                                                                        

  • Knowledge /Interest in AI rendering tools

  • Exhibits a working knowledge of product manufacturing

  • Ability to build relationships in order to successfully work in a team environment.                                                    

  • Be able to communicate and contribute ideas and solutions to improve kids products

This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
