GEICO is seeking a highly skilled, motivated, and detail-oriented individual to serve as an Employment Law Senior Paralegal in the Legal Department primarily to support employment litigation, investigations and EEOC charges. This position provides a broad range of paralegal support and requires excellent communication and task management skills, as well as interacting confidentially with all levels of leadership. There is also an expectation of strong technical skills, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  The selected candidate thrives in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings across all levels.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and respond to legal claims pending with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ("EEOC") and related state agencies by current and former employees

  • Submit the company's response to employment discrimination claims filed before an agency or legal letters submitted by the employee's attorney

  • Attend mediations, settlement conferences and agency investigations, including drafting settlement documents

  • Analyze and advise management, counsel, and other staff of high risk and high exposure cases for the company

  • Provide in-depth consultation to all levels of management, counsel, and other staff from early case planning through production and case close in high pressure situations handling multiple priorities

  • Assist in preservation scoping including identifying custodians, interviewing custodians, and determining relevant data repositories

  • Draft clear and effective position statements setting forth the company response to these claims

  • Evaluate risk/merits of claims and advise with in-depth communication to business partners and supervising attorneys 

  • Respond to claims and draft settlement documents under supervision of counsel

  • Participate in employment related work teams and activities within the Legal Department

  • Handle paralegal assignments related to other areas of the law

Basic Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience as a paralegal – REQUIRED

  • A minimum of 1 year as an employment law paralegal – REQUIRED

  • Must be able to multi-task.

  • Must be able to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Location: Hybrid – This position requires the individual to work onsite, 3 days out of the Chevy Chase, MD office.
