Our client is an international leader, the biggest in the world, in payments processing technology servicing all types of businesses – big and small, online and traditional retail outlets.

The company’s financial products include credit cards, ATM processing, merchant services, rewards and fraud prevention.

Specifically, we are looking for an Oracle PL/SQL Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the development of fintech products that are changing the way the world pays, banks and invests. This will involve consulting on software development or operations processes, quality practices, quality audits and software measurements.

As part of an Agile team you’ll contribute and support the team to deliver its commitments in a predictable way according to the SAFe definition and with the expected quality.

The Senior Oracle PL/SQL developer will work closely with each discipline within the Delivery Team (Product Owner, Design, Development and Test) to design and develop reports, data reconciliation routines, ETL processes and application code in response to business requirements.

  • Perform design reviews, provide input and estimate effort required for implementation

  • Design code components/flows/reports to meet the business requirements and the functional design

  • Identify data requirements, define the data model and the data dependencies on the upstream systems

  • Develop all the necessary report components – layout, templates, PL/SQL code - including documentation, in accordance with the functional and technical design

  • Implement ETLs and data reconciliation routines

  • Produce well structured, maintainable, reliable and fit for purpose code at an accepted level of quality

  • Develop unit tests (where appropriate) to the highest possible coverage levels. Suggest approaches for mocking test data and work closely with the QA engineers to ensure appropriate test coverage of the functionality

  • Create builds and deployment artefacts, deployment notes and operating instructions. Leverage the current CI/CD pipelines, suggest and apply improvements to the pipelines (where appropriate)

  • Provide Level 3 support – maintain applications/reports by fixing defects/bugs and perform technical change requests scheduled according to Release Management processes. Investigate incident root causes, suggest recovery options

Qualifications and Tech Proficiency

  • Can-do attitude and a sense of responsibility for the wider implications of software engineering. A flexible approach is necessary for the role as business requirements and their relative priorities are subject to review and change

  • Strong experience with PL/SQL, Oracle functions, procedures, packages. Knowledge of data extraction, transformation, and data loading techniques

  • Good understanding of SQL performance tuning techniques, including approaches for retrieving large volumes of data. A desire to improve understanding of these techniques and apply them on day-to-day activities

  • Experience with different RDMS or DW (Oracle, MS SQL Server, others) and SQL language

  • Ability to understand and design logical and physical data models

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, ability to articulate technical and non-technical issues and present the team’s work in various forums

  • Good problem-solving skills, ability to investigate and replicate issues, commitment to detail and the ability to learn quickly

  • Ability to make decisions, often with limited information, and communicate these to others within the team

  • Collaborative and supportive team-player attitude, with a passion for sharing knowledge and best practices

  • Ability to work in virtual teams shared across multiple locations

  • Fluent English (written/verbal)

Nice to have: 

  • Experience in Reporting area with different reporting tools or frameworks. Experience in implementing data reconciliation routines and/or data migration and/or ETL processes

  • Working experience in SQL performance tuning techniques

  • Working experience with Oracle BI Publisher and/or Oracle Business Intelligence

  • Understanding of Agile working practices

  • Jenkins basic knowledge (how to build and run jobs)

  • Familiarity with scheduling/orchestration systems (e.g. Control-M) and monitoring systems (Splunk)

  • Familiarity with Shell scripting and Linux basic knowledge

  • Experience with Scripting languages (e.g. Python)

  • AWS and Cloud architecture experience

  • Business knowledge of Payment systems
