Summary of Job Duties:

The Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) is a life support method for patients with severe cardiac and/or respiratory failure, providing both gas exchange and cardiac support to aid in recovery. The ECMO Program Coordinator, a registered nurse, works with the medical director and team to develop, implement, and oversee the program, ensuring staff training, performance monitoring, and compliance with standards.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate in Nursing
  • Valid Arkansas Registered Nurse License
  • 3 years of cardiovascular ICU experience
  • Experience as an ECMO Specialist

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BSN
  • Experience as an ECMO Coordinator
  • Experience in the gathering, analyzing, and displaying of data in order to promote change / improvement.
  • Experience in program development / expansion to meet program needs.
  • Experience in the development of standard work, protocols, or clinical guidelines
  • Advanced interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the development and implementation of the Cardiogenic Shock and LVAD programs, with a working knowledge of ECMO to provide cross-coverage for the MCS program.

  • Maintains 24/7 on-call responsibility, rotating shifts with other MCS coordinators.

  • Plans, coordinates, and implements care for ECMO, CS, heart failure, and pre/post-VAD patients, ensuring the application of nursing practices in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

  • Holds 24-hour accountability for the clinical nursing practice and patient care delivery within the ECMO/VAD patient populations.

  • Coordinates resources, staff development, and compliance with regulatory and professional standards to optimize patient care and operational success.

  • Collaborates with other team leaders to manage staff and resources effectively, assisting in cross-training staff as needed.

  • Provides direct patient care when necessary and ensure adherence to service excellence standards to maximize patient satisfaction.
