Job Description:

Discover will not sponsor or transfer employment work visas for this position.  Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Manages team responsibilities independently, establishing direction, and prioritizing efforts. Serves as subject matter expert in multiple and highly complex business activities. Demonstrates broad perspective and critical thinking that is cross-functional, extending beyond area(s) of responsibility. Ability to get the heart of an issue, demonstrating strategic thinking while leveraging technical expertise in formulating solutions. Acts in a consultative nature and makes recommendations to advance initiatives, even if not in own area, while also demonstrating flexibility and open-mindedness in evaluating options. Challenges the status quo by evaluating situations from multiple facets. Manages staff training, development, and performance in area of responsibility. Develops relationships, expanding leadership influence to accomplish results through others. Responsible for the design and operating effectiveness of the control environment within the area of responsibility. Applies judgement for the appropriate application of Corporate Policy, GAAP, Regulation, or established framework. Able to lead discussions with senior management as well as external parties. Demonstrates influence and decision-making across levels. Demonstrates accountability and leadership in the advancement of priorities independent of management oversight. Develops and coaches' teams to be able to identify, manage, and escalate risk, and effectively manage risk within the teams you oversee.

Responsibilities

  • Manages a functional team(s) responsible for completion of accounting-control activities, such as account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close. Ensures all accounting responsibilities are completed timely, accurate, and in accordance with corporate policies.

  • Manages workload and resource allocation against team objectives by providing clear communication to staff and Senior Leadership. Provides ongoing training and development to staff. Routinely engage with staff via regular meetings and informal discussions. Provides performance feedback and career support to direct reports. Span of Control is three or more.

  • Represents team responsibilities during month-end and quarter-end financial close. Ensures timely and accurate financial reporting is provided for all areas assigned.

  • Oversees efforts relating to financial reporting, internal and external audits, and compliance. Ensures documentation provided is accurate and all reviews are performed successfully without evidence of control gaps within span of control.

  • Demonstrates subject matter expertise within areas of responsibility. Provides ongoing accounting leadership to support business partners throughout the company.

  • Leads cross-functional teams to support the advancement of new business initiatives and/or resolution of production events impacting the business. Ensures all new initiatives contain adequate accounting requirements and are tested successfully to ensure no interruption to financial reporting.

  • Continuously seek efficiency and control improvements to further capabilities of the team. Leverages internal capabilities and external resources as needed to independently pursue opportunities to strengthen the team.

Minimum Qualifications

At a minimum, here’s what we need from you:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related

  • 8+ years of experience in Accounting, Finance, or related

Preferred Qualifications

If we had our say, we’d also look for:

  • Master's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration and Management, or related

  • 4+ years of experience in Banking or Payments, Financial or Regulatory Reporting, Supervisory, or related experience

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Compensation:

The base pay for this position generally ranges between $103,000.00 to $174,200.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package. Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
