Job Description

The Opportunity

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University - Daytona Beach campus is seeking an energetic Assistant Director of Fitness Facility Operations and Risk Management oversees all facility operations-related aspects for the Department of Fitness and Wellness, including reservations, welcome desk, event scheduling, and building maintenance. The Assistant Director will coordinate with a variety of staff, vendors, and patrons to ensure proper maintenance, cleanliness, and operational soundness of the Department of Fitness and Wellness spaces (including the outdoor pool) and related scheduling needs.

The  Assistant Director assist in departmental-level strategic planning, forecasting budget needs, managing equipment inventories, and reconciling regular fiscal obligations such as expense reports, purchase requisitions, etc. Incumbent will serve as the master administrator for the facility management software and manage all facility-related access items, scheduling, and maintenance concerns.

Assistant Director of Fitness Facility Operations and Risk Management 

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the facility, pool, and surrounding lawns, including inputting and approving event request and associated billing
  • Input and oversee all building-related facility repair requests and coordinate with respective vendors to ensure timely completion
  • Oversee Coordinator of Outdoor Adventures
  • Manage departmental purchasing card and complete purchases for program areas (including outdoor adventures, climbing wall, swim lessons, etc.) as needed and reconcile transactions.

Employee management and development (Coordinator of Outdoor Adventures, Welcome Desk Staff, Lifeguards, Water Safety Instructors)

  • Manage and support the Coordinator of Outdoor Adventures
  • Recruit, hire, train and provide leadership to student welcome desk, aquatics, and facilities staff.
  • Conduct regular training sessions for welcome desk and other student support staff to ensure a high standard of facility operations.
  • Schedule and coordinate student staff to ensure appropriate coverage during operational hours.
  • Manage certifications, scheduling, and risk management skills and trainings for student employees.

Administrative

  • Support the operational, fiscal, program management, and employee development needs of the Coordinator of Outdoor Adventures including attendance at various internal and external trainings to support in this capacity.
  • Support all functions of the Fitness and Wellness Department as related to facility operations and reservation/ event scheduling.
  • Oversee fitness facility reservation requests and scheduling.
  • Assist with day-to-day operations of the floor, respond to participant questions and concerns, monitor supply inventory.
  • Manage and reconcile departmental purchasing card.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in recreation, sports management, exercise science or other relevant field required.
  • Experience training and supervising student staff utilizing best practices for customer service.
  • Experience supervising recreation facilities and aquatic spaces.
  • Experience with reservation management and billing
  • Current Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification preferred
  • Current Red Cross CPR Instructor certification preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, proficient computer skills, ability to use sound management principles and work effectively with ethnically and culturally diverse constituencies.
