Job Summary

Akron General is a 532-bed Community Teaching Hospital located in downtown Akron, Ohio. The director of pharmacy oversees all areas of the pharmacy operation, including the inpatient pharmacy services, retail pharmacy, Lodi critical access hospital, medication supply for offsite physician offices, free-standing inpatient hospice, free-standing ED’s, and four outpatient infusion centers. Akron General has an extensive residency program, including a combined PGY1/PGY2 HSPAL program and acute care PGY1 program. Akron General is an integrated hospital as part of the broader Cleveland Clinic health-system, and provides progressive, standardized clinical pharmacy services. These services include decentralized clinical and rounding services, inpatient dosing services, and transitions of care services. Pharmacists in the outpatient clinics practice under consult agreements in Ohio to actively manage medications for their patients.

                         

Job Details

  • Department planning and supervision of all pharmacy personnel.
  • Participates in preparation and monitoring of departmental budget, assuming leadership of drug expense portion.
  • Designs systems to assure the Pharmacy Department meets all existing standards.
  • Develops, implements, directs, and monitors pharmaceutical care services.
  • Designs quality programs evaluating drug utilization and pharmacy services.
  • Evaluates efficiency and safety of pharmacy services.
  • Recommends programs to enhance performance while staying abreast of current trends.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Maintains applicable certification/licensure.

Education:
  • Requires PharmD. Requires Masters of Science degree, or Masters of Business Administration degree. Preferably residency-trained.

Certifications:
  • Requires Current State licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible for reciprocation in current State within 90 days of hire.

Complexity of Work:
  • Maintains competencies specific to patient population served.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment.
  • Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Work Experience:
  • A minimum of 10 years in an equivalent role within a health system environment may offset the advanced degree requirement. Requires a minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible leadership positions with a distinguished record of clinical practice. Experience in a large, tertiary care medical center preferred.
