Operations Summer Internship

The Operations Summer Internship will be an 8-week focused placement, targeted to students entering the penultimate year of their undergraduate or graduate education.  This will be an opportunity for the intern to embed themselves into the Operations department within Arch to obtain knowledge and professional skills, whilst gaining a comprehensive understanding of the distinct roles within the team.

The Operations department works alongside the underwriters and the wider business supporting the organisation in the processing of underwriting risks, the due diligence and oversight of third-party arrangements (coverholders and brokers), and the delivery of key strategic projects and process improvement initiatives.  Operations maintains a significant role in the Lloyd’s central processing activity which sits at the heart of the London Insurance Market.

Throughout the 8 weeks you will have the opportunity to:

• Work across the key departments making up Operations (Operational Processing, Delegated Underwriting, Bordereaux Management and Broker Oversight)

• Assist in the governance and oversight of the function

• Work with the Operations team to review and report service level performance

• Work with the Delegated Underwriting and bordereaux management team to monitor third party arrangements and performance

• Review processes and identify process improvement and enhanced control opportunities.

• Networking opportunities with our Underwriters and experts

• Work independently on projects

The internship runs from Monday 23rd June - Friday 15th August and is a paid opportunity.

Summer Internship Programme – Skills Developed

Throughout the Summer Internship Programme, you will receive comprehensive training and support, to develop the following skills:

• Knowledge and understanding of the Operational framework supporting the London Market and Syndicates

• Communication & Negotiation Skills – ability to adapt your communication style for a variety of audiences.

• Commercial Thinking – understanding of the insurance market and its customers.  Regulatory and Compliance awareness.

• Teamwork – ability to work as part of a team.

• Organisational discipline with ability to work independently using imitative and without guidance.

• Deliver Results – based on defined objectives and timescales.

• Ability to build and maintain both internal and external professional relationships. 

• Proficient interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills, in addition to customer service skills

Qualifications & Experience

• Expected/achieved minimum 2:1 classification in any degree discipline

Arch seeks candidates who have excelled in previous work experience, demonstrated outstanding academic and extracurricular achievement, possess strong analytical, quantitative, and interpersonal skills, and are enthusiastic about the insurance industry.
