Job Summary:

The Shift Leader assists the store leadership with the day-to-day store operations and overall performance to meet or exceed budget while operating in compliance with company standards.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Occasionally supervises staff, giving them oral and written communications regarding work assignments and performance.  May have more supervisory responsibility in the absence of the Store Manager and/or Assistant Store Manager.
  • Demonstrates an enthusiastic, winning attitude at all times.  Acts courteously and with interest in each encounter with guests.
  • Processes guest’s transactions quickly and accurately within the cash handling guidelines.
  • Engages with guests while on the sales floor and provides assistance as needed.
  • Maintains all visual presentations, i.e. houseware end caps, H-rack displays, shoe rack, etc.
  • Ensures the proper rotation of all store merchandise.
  • Ensures a clean and safe environment in the stores, processing area and donation center by adhering to good housekeeping practices or delegating those tasks to team member.
  • Verifies cash drawers and completes the bank deposit at the close of business.
  • Ensures store personnel comply with the company’s guideline to exceed customer and donor experiences and demonstrate appropriate interactions with customers and team members.
  • Meets production goals for grading, sorting, hanging, pricing and tagging donated items in preparation for sale on the retail floor.
  • Participates in the store’s loss prevention control by reporting suspicious activity to the Store Manager, Regional Manager or Loss Prevention Director.  Ensures that items are not given away or disposed of without authorization.
  • Acts as a positive role model for team members, trainees and guests in all aspects of professional development.
  • Ensures the store is open and operational during designated hours of operation.
  • Meets or exceeds daily productivity and quality standards as determined by Donated Goods Leadership.
  • Price/Value relationship:  price items according to guidelines as to maximize the value of the donations while providing our guests with quality items at a good value.
  • Maintains a clean, organized and safe environment by only necessary items in the production stations.
  • Conducts 15-minute drills at the end of each shift to ensure compliance with station set up.
  • Is available to our guests and exhibit a high level of customer service by exceeding their expectation.
  • Is knowledgeable of and complies with all company policies and procedures, as well as legal requirements, at all times.
  • Actively maintains a safe, healthy, and positive environment that promotes the physical and emotional well-being of team members, guests, and those in our program. 
  • Attends monthly mandatory store meetings.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Skills

Education

  • No high school diploma or GED is required, however it is preferred.

Experience

  • 12-18 months related experience and/or training.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Must be able to effectively communicate with other store employees.
  • Able to push or pull loads weighing over 50 pounds continuously.
  • Able to understand, communicate, comply with and enforce policies and procedures.
  • Able to learn new processes quickly and possesses strong organizational skills.
  • Able to problem-solve, prioritize and be able to multi-task.
  • Able to travel to and work at other locations as needed.
  • Able to do basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) and manage a budget.
  • Able to read and complete forms.
  • Basic computer skills (Basic Excel and E-mail).
  • Must have reliable transportation to perform job duties; i.e. travel to other Goodwill locations and/or make bank deposits as needed.
  • Is able to work a varied schedule that regularly includes nights and weekends.

Certifications and Licenses

  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Education / Experience / Knowledge & Skills / Certifications & Licenses

  • Experience in retail, customer service or production is preferred with a minimum of 3 months of supervisory experience.
