About the role

We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our growing team at Hex. This role is crucial in strengthening our operations and supporting our rapid growth. As the first hire on Hex’s Accounting Team, you will be responsible for overseeing all our day-to-day Accounting operations, including AP, AR, Payroll, and Treasury. You’ll help manage existing external relationships with our bookkeepers and tax vendors, and partner with the Strategic Finance Team to build Hex’s first month end close process for P&L and Cash Flow.

The ideal candidate will have 4+ years of experience in Accounting, with direct experience in a small company (ideally SaaS) environment. A strong educational background in Accounting or a related field is a must. This position offers an exciting opportunity to help build out Hex’s Accounting function from the ground up. Join us!

What you’ll do

  • Accounts Payable (AP): manage vendor invoices to ensure timely payment and accurate expense records. Monitor expense activity on company cards.
  • Accounts Receivable (AR): monitor customer billing activity in Stripe to ensure orderly and accurate collections.
  • Payroll: manage Hex’s bi-monthly payroll run for both full time employees and contractors.
  • Month-End Close: partner with external bookkeepers and the Strategic Finance Team to build and maintain a month end close process for both Cash and P&L. Monitor Journal Entry accuracy, and help manage the Chart of Accounts.
  • GAAP Compliance: In partnership with external bookkeepers, ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial reporting.
  • Treasury: manage cash across Hex’s bank accounts, balancing operational needs while minimizing working capital.
  • Manage other Accounting tasks as needed, including improving revenue recognition processes, managing Hex’s Chart of Accounts, and partnering with external vendors on Tax filings.

What you’ll bring

  • 4+ years of progressive experience in Accounting and Accounting Operations, with at least 2 years experience at a small company/startup.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards. Familiarity with ASC 606 and SaaS revenue recognition standards is a plus.
  • Familiarity with ERP Systems such as Quickbooks and/or Netsuite, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience managing Payroll.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to see what’s coming: predict future Accounting needs and lay the groundwork for them with adequate preparation.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, juggling multiple projects and tasks.
  • This role is Hybrid and requires at least Tuesday + Thursday office attendance in our San Francisco HQ.

In addition to our unique culture, Hex proudly offers a competitive total rewards package, including but not limited to, market-benched salary & equity, comprehensive health benefits, and flexible paid time off.

The salary band for this role is: $103,000 - $150,000.

Placement in the salary range will be decided upon completion of the interview process, taking into account factors like leaving room for growth, internal fairness & parity, your demonstrated skills, and the depth of your experience.
