The Tactical Space Systems Mechanical Engineering organization is seeking a mid-level Structural Analysis & Test Engineer to assist an experienced team of mechanical engineers performing stress/dynamic analysis and testing of one or more spacecraft systems or subsystems.
Responsibilities may include the following:
- Performing static and dynamic structure analysis.
- Reviewing requirements for materials, structure systems & subsystems.
- Selecting appropriate technical information and data from applicable products.
- Determining the technical principles involved, identifying the design path forward and computing the engineering characteristics to ensure consistency with the specifications design needs and requirements of space applications.
- Releasing results as “technical documents” after review by the senior members of the team.
- Developing innovative solutions and elaborating on design concepts.
- Evaluating completed designs with supervisor and other technical groups, and making modifications necessary to achieve the most ideal design.
- Developing, coordinating, and conducting test programs required to evaluate design work.
This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.
Basic Qualifications for Structural Analysis & Test Engineer:
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM - Science, Technology, Engineer, Math or related area (Mechanical Engineering or Degrees with a focus in Structural Analysis highly preferred) 2 years of experience or Master’s Degree.
- Ability to perform structural engineering tasks associated with analysis, design, and/or testing of structures.
- Experience with at least one of the following Mechanical Analysis tools such as NX FEMAP/NASTRAN, ABAQUS, HYPERMESH. (Equivalent spacecraft structural analysis tools may be considered on a case-by-case basis).
- Experience utilizing MATLAB
Preferred Qualifications Structural Analysis & Test Engineer:
- Experience with Structural Analysis of Dynamic Test Fixtures & Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE)
- Experience with one or more of the following types of testing: static load testing, sine/random vibration, mechanical shock testing, vibro-acoustic testing, and dynamics/kinematics testing
- Experience with Static/Dynamics Test Planning & Execution (Test Director Role)
- The ability to take initiative and coordinate planning of tests with multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders
- The ability to create and maintain detailed and accurate test schedules and to coordinate test support in a fast-paced and changing environment
- Experience with preparing and presenting comprehensive Test Readiness Review (TRR) packages
- Experience with troubleshooting efforts, failure investigations, and implementation of lessons learned related to testing
- Test/Analysis Finite Element Model (FEM) correlation experience.
- The ability to build strong working relationships with a diverse team.
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Active Top Secret security clearance
Salary Range: $89,400.00 - $134,200.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
