The Adviser business provides support, expertise and technology for financial advisers in the UK to bring value for their businesses and their clients. The ambition of the Adviser business is to be the easiest partner that advisers will do business with, and our purpose is to help advisory businesses thrive, so they can help their clients prosper.

We will achieve our ambition by focusing on three things: Helping advisers do business their way, making it easy and putting our strength to work for them. Our Technical Consulting team support this ambition by providing expert consultancy to our key adviser firms helping them to provide great outcomes to their client’s complex tax and retirement planning needs.

About the role

An opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified individual to join our Technical Consulting team. As a senior tax planning consultant, you will provide expert holistic tax planning consultancy in the field of personal taxation, trusts and wealth transfer to our adviser clients.

Reporting to one of our Technical Managers, the role holder will provide holistic tax planning consultancy to financial advisers for complex tax, trusts and wealth transfer cases.

The consultant will be expected to:

Communicate information, over the phone or via email, at a level appropriate to the needs of financial advisers by translating complex tax and estate planning information into what it means for them and their clients.

Maintain and apply an in-depth knowledge of tax, trusts and wealth transfer legislation.

Design, create and/or check a variety of digital/written content to support key messages in these areas.

Support business proposition development and campaign activity by providing consultancy, including the generation of ideas and thought leadership aligned to our trading priorities.

•Manage abrdn’s risk by monitoring, analysing and communicating legislative change emerging from HMRC, Treasury and other key sources.

Offer meaningful analysis and applying influence to internal and external customers to best effect, building networks and relationships with key stakeholders to support business decisions and influence regulation and legislative change

Candidate Requirements:

To be qualified to at least CII/PFS Diploma level or have another equivalent professional qualification in tax, trusts, (such as ATT or STEP) or an appropriate degree/specialist knowledge.

Experience in providing tax planning consultancy/guidance, i.e. the ability to identify problems, consider options and propose solutions to meet a client need.

An ability to simplify complex legislation, focusing on what it means for a variety of audiences but primarily financial advisers and their clients.
