  • This is an excellent opportunity to join us as a Legal Counsel, where you’ll deliver the legal strategy and provide expert, accurate and cost effective legal advice
  • Your role will sit within the NatWest Markets Debt Capital Markets team, so we’ll need you to have an understanding of associated legal, regulatory and disclosure issues

What you'll do

We’re looking for a Legal Counsel to manage and coordinate the delivery of legal advice and internal and external support to our Debt Capital Markets business. You’ll work closely with stakeholders and legal colleagues to ensure the timely, effective and efficient delivery of all issues, projects and initiatives, either directly or through a team.

You’ll also be:

  • Making sure that our legal advice is readily understandable to non-lawyers, delivered within relevant timescales, and manages and minimises legal risks
  • Supporting continuous improvement in operating practices and processes, including identifying efficiencies, improvements and opportunities to reduce costs
  • Helping to communicate internal and external legal advice and providing input on transactions and projects to stakeholders
  • Helping to manage legal costs using e-billing, auctions and other cost tools and driving a culture of disciplined cost management and controls

The skills you'll need

We’re looking for a solicitor or barrister with experience of providing legal and commercial advice in relation to transactions and projects, and experience working in the fixed income capital markets. You’ll be able to draw on your experience of working with law firms and other professional advisers and have knowledge of current legal issues facing banks and other issuers.

You’ll also need:

  • Knowledge of general banking law and practice and the financial services industry
  • Experience of organising, leading and motivating professional teams
  • The ability to build rapport and establish strong relationships with colleagues up to senior executive level and external professional contacts
  • The ability to keep up to date with and share relevant legal and market developments
