The Role:

We are looking for an engineering leader with a proven track record of delivering results in fast-paced, rapidly changing, and high scale environments. As a hands-on technical leader, you'll play a crucial role in driving innovation and supporting high-growth business by designing and developing the next generation of a highly scalable, modular, and extensible Big Data platform. This platform supports real-time, near real-time and offline analytics and is built to scale to process petabytes of data with clear SLAs.

As an engineering leader at Conviva, you will be highly technical, with experience in building solutions using both mature and emerging big data storage technologies. You will attract, assemble, and mentor top talent, helping your team grow while keeping them motivated and organized. You'll plan strategically and execute with the best engineering practices, delivering a big data storage platform that is scalable, stable, reliable, resilient, and cost-effective in production environments, with significant business impact for years to come.

In addition to leading your team, you will collaborate across engineering teams, work closely with the executive management team, and engage with customers and external partners.

What You Get to Do:

  • Develop and manage plans for Resource Allocation, Capacity, Execution, Platform Cost Management, and Risk Mitigation to address both immediate and long-term storage needs.
  • Partner closely with technology and product leaders to develop and prioritize a technology roadmap that meets product requirements with clear SLAs.
  • Ensure timely execution of the roadmap while maintaining high quality and adhering to fiscal responsibilities.
  • Build, communicate and implement plans for the Big Data Platform focusing on Scalability, Stability, Reliability and Resiliency (2SSR) to manage explosive traffic growth and computation needs while meeting stringent SLAs.
  • Lead conflict resolution, Incident Management, and prioritization of Change Control Board (CCB) requests.
  • Lead the creation of written incident reports, success stories, and communications for internal and external audiences as needed, ensuring timely delivery.
  • Drive data-driven decision-making by defining KPIs and metrics to measure the performance of the Big Data Platform and the team.
  • Attract, hire and retain top engineering talent.
  • Mentor and develop team members, fostering their growth and motivation to ensure continued development.

What You Bring to the Role:

  • Software engineering experience in the Big Data Storage domain, with at least 3 years of experience in leading and managing engineering teams.
  • Hands-on experience with modern Big Data technologies, such as Phoenix/HBase, Redshift, Presto/Athena, Hive, Spark SQL, Snowflake, Impala, BigTable, BigQuery, Druid, and Clickhouse.
  • Familiarity with messaging layers (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis) and cloud/container-based deployments (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience in a complex, service-oriented software development environment, with a preference for experience in building large-scale microservices.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, start-up environment with ambiguity and to operationalize emerging technologies.
  • Demonstrated success in leading high-performance teams with timely and high-quality project deliveries.
  • Proven track record in developing and commercially deploying highly scalable storage platforms utilizing various database technologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer focus, proactive problem-solving, innovative thinking, and exemplary leadership skills to inspire and drive team performance and innovation.
  • BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Preferred:

  • Track record of contributing to open-source projects
