If you are a disputes lawyer with experience in a top tier law firm or in-house in a major corporate, this might be your next career opportunity:
Deliver strategic legal advice on emerging legal risks and dispute resolution.
Take ownership of high-profile complex litigation, with a particular focus on class actions and other complex commercial disputes.
Be part of a supportive, engaged and dynamic team.
See yourself in our team:
Group Services Legal is part of Legal & Group Secretariat (L&GS) and this team works with business units to support them in attaining their strategic goals and sustaining a competitive advantage by ensuring legal risks are appropriately recognised and managed.
The Group Services Legal team is comprised of Disputes Legal, Employment Legal, and Regulatory Legal.
The Disputes Legal team provides the Group with strategic advice and disputes support, helping our businesses avoid emerging legal risks or resolve disputes, and to litigate where required. The Commercial Disputes team, in particular, leads a wide range of high-profile complex litigation, with a particular focus on class actions and other complex commercial disputes.
In this capacity, you will report to the Managing Counsel, Commercial Disputes. Here, you have the opportunity to join a dedicated, high performing team all working collaboratively to achieve values driven outcomes.
Do work that matters:
As part of a cohesive team, you will provide high value strategic legal services, including advice on alternative dispute resolution strategies, strategic advice on contentious matters and taking carriage and leading complex litigated matters, with a particular focus on class actions.
Maintain a deep understanding of the Group’s and L&GS's strategy and ensure that the strategy is executed successfully.
Provide strategic advice on a diverse range of disputed matters, including emerging risks and disputes.
Develop an awareness of the Group's legal practices and risk appetite, and apply this knowledge to provide legal services.
Lead the legal analysis of issues arising from disputes and advise on appropriate steps including risk mitigation.
Establish effective working relationships, and partner closely with the Group’s internal business units and external legal counsel, with a primary focus on providing high value legal services and advice to stakeholders in relation to complex commercial disputes, class actions and conducting complex litigation.
Lead effective and thoughtful engagement with key senior stakeholders across the Group to provide proactive insights on existing and emerging legal risks and disputes.
We’re interested in hearing from people who have:
10+ years relevant post admission experience.
Significant experience in providing strategic legal advice, ideally advice in relation to emerging legal risks, taking carriage of commercial litigation, particularly class actions, and resolving disputes.
An interest in setting the strategy for and managing the resolution of high profile and complex disputes.
The ability to communicate complex issues simply and persuasively.
Excellent legal technical skills including the ability quickly to grasp, negotiate and resolve issues in complex matters involving diverse legal questions.
Experience engaging with and negotiating with senior stakeholders.
Experience in a top tier law firm or in-house in a major corporate.
A focus on delivery and an ability to work autonomously.
If this sounds like your next career opportunity, we’d love to hear from you!
