Job Description:

Role Summary:

  • Support the Regional Accounting and Control - FRR Director, including the preparation of Asia Financial Statements as well as the consolidation of all financial and statutory reports to RO and Corporate.
  • Participate in various projects
  • Acts as Relationship Manager for Asia business unit (BU)
  • This role will be located in Hong Kong to provide timely support to Hong Kong BU in the areas of financial control enhancement, acceleration of financial close, IFRS 17 accounting advice, etc.

Main Accountabilities

  • Supports the Regional Accounting and Control - FRR Director
  • Ensures closing of the BU’s books based on the agreed schedule
  • Ensures that key controls over RAC-FRR's Financial Close Process are operating effectively
  • Reviews and coordinates with the BU Finance team on the timely submission of notes disclosure requirements, Canadian statutory requirements and other management reports and accordingly, and ensures accuracy of information reported.
  • Support the Business Units need such as assisting and providing them guidance on various accounting issues as well as processing their COV requests.
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of Asia’s financial and regulatory reports to Corporate.
  • Prepares financial statements and reports for submission to Regional Office Finance and Central Accounting based on the agreed timeline.
  • Participates in the impact assessment of new standards/amendments to existing standards.
  • Participates in the ICFR (Internal Control over Finance Reporting) – related activities.
  • Perform/ review reconciliation and ensure compliance with the relevant standards and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with Corporate/ regional/ BU Finance in driving or assisting in various finance initiatives, such as Hong Kong Control Strengthening Project, revamp of IFRS 17 financial statement analytics, acceleration of financial close, etc
  • Participate in other ad-hoc tasks as assigned by the manager

Qualifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a must
  • 8+ years of working experience with at least 5 years of combined accounting, supervisory, and or managerial experience
  • Knowledgeable of the IFRS and with strong accounting skills
  • Knowledge in IFRS 17 is a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Capable of multitasking and working in multi-cultural environment
  • Proactive, a quick learner and be able to meet tight deadlines
  • Working in sizable multinational companies and/or insurance industry is highly preferred
  • Knowledgeable in computerized accounting systems such as SAP, Sun Systems and Oracle is an advantage
  • Knowledge of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act is an advantage
