Please note that this is a contract till September 30, 2025. This Full-Time position is 5 days a week, and is a hybrid position based out of our Burnaby, BC head office. Applicants who are not located within commuting distance of our Head Office or are not looking to relocate to the Greater Vancouver/Lower Mainland/Fraser Valley region will not be considered. ​

We are currently hiring a Senior Insurance Accountant based in our Head Office.

As a Senior Insurance Accountant, you lead the accounting team to maintain the integrity of BCAA’s financial information through effective accounting policies and practices. The Senior Accountant plays a crucial role in the preparation of monthly financial results, supporting quarterly/annual financial reporting, and ensuring ongoing regulatory compliance for our insurance entity.

What you’ll do

The Senior Insurance Accountant has an array of accounting and financial reporting responsibilities, these include:

  • Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, consolidations, and note disclosures.

  • Prepare and review assigned G/L account reconciliations between the general ledger and insurance sub-systems while implementing continuous improvements to optimize accuracy and efficiency throughout the financial reporting cycle.

  • Evaluate and recommend new accounting policies as the need arises in accordance with ASPE, NPO-accounting and IFRS.

  • Prepare and review working papers for quarterly and annual P&C-1 insurance reporting to external regulators (BCFSA and/or OSFI), and assist with tax compliance filings (GST, corporate income tax, premium tax).

  • Prepare and reconcile insurance results and related schedules for our insurance broker and reinsurers, including quota share reporting, portfolio transfers, Excess of Loss Premium adjustments, and facilitate external actuary’s review for fiscal year-end results.

  • Assist in the completion of all external audits for the BCAA group of companies, taking ownership of the annual working paper package preparation for external auditors.

  • Recommend action plans to address audit findings and reduce adjustments, while identifying and mitigating control failures through regular reviews of reconciliations and processes.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business/Commerce with a concentration in Finance/Accounting from a recognized university.

  • CPA designation.

  • Minimum of four years accounting or auditing experience in an environment with multiple accounting standards and business units (Insurance or financial institution industry experience preferred).

  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory filings, including P&C returns, coupled with strong technical accounting skills and a keen understanding of current and emerging accounting and taxation pronouncements.

  • Bonus Skills:

  • Experience with IFRS implementation.

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage large volumes of data effectively.

The salary range for this position is $85,536.24 to $106,920.24 and is determined via job-related knowledge, skills, experience, certifications, market demand and internal equity. In addition to base salary and BCAA benefits, this position is eligible for a performance bonus target of 9%, with the opportunity to earn up to 15%.
