PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Analyze, evaluate, plan, specify, and develop foundry processes using initiative, imagination, and judgment under general technical direction and supervision.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans and designs facilities and layout for manufacturing processes and equipment, taking into account economic factors, process flow, operator efficiency and comfort.
  • Develops solutions to a variety of engineering problems of moderate scope and complexity by exercising judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
  • Applies continuous improvement and lean principles to improve manufacturing processes and methods resulting in cost savings, improved quality and higher efficiency.
  • Contributes to the development of new concepts, techniques, and standards.
  • Applies technical problem definition and solution in assigned areas.
  • Acts as liaison with design engineering on incorporating changes to the designs which improve manufacturability.
  • Develops tools that enable manufacturing, aid process improvement or address safety concerns through application of engineering principles, concepts, practices and standards.
  • Leads cross-functional studies pertaining to cost control, cost reduction, inventory control through the application of Lean principles.
  • Leads and manages cross-functional projects with medium levels of complexity. Projects typically have elements which are key to the success of the business unit.
  • Determines the most efficient sequence of operations and work flow, and establishes methods for maximum utilization of production facilities and personnel.
  • Prepares cost estimates for proposed projects and evaluates cost factors.  Oversees related Capital Investment project requests.
  • Reviews product designs for producibility, providing technical input to correct design deficiencies in producibility.
  • Coordinates the manufacturing launch of new/revised products including training team members and evaluating the results
  • Performs process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvements, and improved efficiencies
  • Assists in the preparation of detailed layouts of buildings and equipment

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA or BS degree in an industrial related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a foundry
  • Knowledge of Green Sand and No-bake sand molding practices
  • Knowledge of Core making practices and core handling devices

OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires the ability to manage multiple projects in a systematic and orderly manner.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • CAD experience required

WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to move within office and manufacturing complex, write by hand and keyboard, and perform general office functions.
  • Ability to communicate by speech and hearing via phone and in person.
  • Visual acuity needed for close detail work and computer use.
  • General manufacturing, warehouse and office environment.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate with customers, suppliers and all levels of corporate and company personnel.

  • Requires frequent contact with personnel from all departments and at all management levels and outside vendors.
