The HR Business Partner (HRBP) plays a crucial role in this mission by acting as a vital link between the HR team and various departments across the college. As a trusted advisor, the HRBP will empower leaders and staff to cultivate a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence, ultimately enhancing the overall employee experience and contributing to the college’s success.

In this capacity, the HRBP will manage critical functions such as employee relations, performance management, compensation, and rewards and recognition programs. Collaborating closely with department leaders, the HRBP will ensure that HR strategies are aligned with departmental and institutional objectives, fostering a positive and productive work environment.

Key Outcomes

25% of Time: General HR Support:

  • Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation to department leaders and employees.
  • Collaborates with the HR team to develop and deliver training programs on various HR topics.
  • Partners with department leaders on developing and implementing succession planning strategies.
  • Collaborates with HR colleagues and hiring managers to establish consistent onboarding practices.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to ensure proper functioning of HRIS (WorkDay); participates in system testing as needed.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date HR records and reports for assigned departments.
  • Participates in HR projects and initiatives as needed.

25% of Time: Employee Relations

  • Serves as a primary point of contact for employee relations issues within designated departments.
  • Provides guidance and support to managers and employees on conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and grievance procedures.
  • Conducts thorough investigations into employee complaints and recommends appropriate action.

20% of Time: Performance Management

  • Partners with department leaders to develop and implement effective performance management strategies.
  • Guides managers in setting performance goals, conducting evaluations, and providing constructive feedback.
  • Supports professional development initiatives to enhance employee skills and performance.

15% of Time: Compensation

  • Assists in the development, implementation, and administration of compensation programs.
  • Conducts market research to ensure competitive and equitable pay practices.
  • Advises department leaders on salary adjustments, promotions, and job reclassifications.

10% of Time: Rewards and Recognition

  • Supports recognition programs that align with the college’s culture and values.
  • Coordinates with department heads to identify and reward outstanding employee contributions.
  • Manages service award programs and other initiatives that promote employee engagement and satisfaction.

5% of Time: Other Duties

  • Performs additional duties as assigned and assists in the planning, coordination, and execution of HR projects and initiative as needed.
  • Stays current on HR best practices and relevant legal regulations.
  • Assists with the development of HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Actively participates in community engagement through committee involvement and staffing various college-wide events as requested, including Homecoming, Reunion Commencement and others.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

                     

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in HR, with a focus on employee relations, performance management, and compensation.
  • Proven experience working in a hospitality or service-oriented environment is highly preferred, offering valuable insight into the dynamics of events, restaurant, hotel, bar, facilities, and public safety staff.
  • Professional HR certification (e.g., PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) is highly desirable.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws, and compliance regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels of the organization, fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion and integrity, maintaining the trust of employees and management.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure and navigate complex employee situations effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail, with strong multitasking and prioritization skills to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Proficiency in HRIS and other HR-related software, ensuring efficient management of HR processes and data. Experience with WorkDay is highly preferred.
  • Strong proficiency with the Google suite and Microsoft Office suite
  • Professional, resourceful demeanor with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic, fast paced environment without sacrificing quality of work.
