About You and this Role

In this role, you will serve as a Mechanical Technologist supporting Energy and Environmental Operations located in Orange, TX.  You will provide maintenance craft specific support to maintain and repair a variety of equipment types. As a Mechanical Technologist, you will support reliability improvements and maintenance repair activities requiring you to have full proficiency in a range of technical skills.

Responsibilities

  • As the Mechanical Technologist, you will be ready to take on the following challenges and bring value to Dow as you:
  • Support the people who manage and/or perform work in the field with the tools and information needed to perform their job effectively and efficiently in terms of safety, reliability, quality, and cost.
  • Provide technical expertise to plant personnel on troubleshooting failures, repairs, and evaluation of equipment designs to ensure it meets intended service conditions.
  • Accountable for critical work in assigned areas of responsibility.  For critical equipment, ensure that work requests include engineering input on repair details such as clearances, tolerances, materials of construction, welding procedures, etc., and if necessary, provide onsite/offsite technical support for deviations from this data.
  • Modify and/or develop quality maintenance repair/PPM procedures, checklists, and QC plans.
  • Modify and/or develop spare parts lists in SAP.
  • Provide technical expertise in developing job scopes for turnarounds, pit stops, and daily maintenance work.
  • Serve as a maintenance focal point for identified jobs in turnarounds, pit stops, and daily maintenance work.  
  • Follow jobs at External and Internal Shops and ensure that steps in QC plans are being executed per process.
  • Evaluate condition-based monitoring activities (Vibrations, Oil Sampling Analysis, etc.) and determine appropriate action.
  • Participate on Rework team to identify top opportunities, create an equipment improvement plan, and properly escalate the need for funding/budget for the repair/improvements.   
  • Obtain quotes from 3rd Party Suppliers for repair work that will be needed.
  • Enter QSPPs (positive and negative) as needed for our 3rd Party Suppliers.
  • Participate in and facilitate root cause investigations (informal and formal) by providing expertise on failures and repair techniques during the investigations.
  • Act as a working team lead, providing subject matter guidance and coordinating work of others, as required.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 10 or more years in a Maintenance/Manufacturing Environment with field experience with repairs and preventative maintenance of Rotating/Fixed Equipment.
  • Must be willing to work weekends, and holidays, when required.
  • Must be willing to work overtime when required.
  • Must have valid US Driver’s License.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.  No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

 

Preferred Skills

  • NCCER Certification, Trade School or Associate degree in related field.
  • SAP experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, with ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: The ability to maintain and repair various types of equipment, demonstrating advanced skills in maintenance and safety processes.
  • Troubleshooting (Problem-Solving): Strong skills in troubleshooting failures and evaluating equipment designs to ensure they meet service conditions.
  • Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with internal and external partners.
  • Collaboration: The ability to lead by influence and work collaboratively with people from diverse backgrounds to achieve common goals.
  • Time Management: Excellent multi-tasking and time management skills to handle multiple responsibilities efficiently.

  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Wear required safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes.
  • Wear and use respirators.
  • Climb stairs/ladders and work high off the ground.
  • Stand or walk for extended periods of time. 
  • Ability to work comfortably and safely at elevated heights. Candidates must be familiar with, or willing to undergo training in, the proper usage and maintenance of safety equipment to ensure safe movement and operations at heights.
