Student Assistant – Svitzer Group Finance

Svitzer offers an exciting opportunity as Student Assistant in our Group Finance department where you will be part of an ambitious team supporting the Global Finance function. We are looking for a proactive and motivated student assistant with great analytical skills, who can support our team in delivering timely, accurate and insightful reporting for the benefit of the team and our stakeholders.

As our new student assistant, you will be exposed to various functions within Finance with the main focus on Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) tasks. With your analytical skills you will among others drive the monthly reporting process. You will be working in an international environment, where you will be exposed to various senior stakeholders.

We are located in Nordhavn where we have fun, are dedicated, move fast and believe there needs to be space for a life outside of work. We enjoy knowledge sharing, challenging status quo, coming up with new ideas, and having freedom as an effect of taking responsibility. The Towage business can be challenging, and we work together to improve. As an example, we have high ambitions for decarbonisation, which our Svitzer Transverse Tug is a result of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPdhKsJu3fk (Time to watch: 1 minute and 55 seconds)

Who we are

Svitzer is a leading Global Towage Operator providing towage and sustainable marine solutions to make ports and terminals safer, more efficient and more climate friendly. We operate in 30+ countries across four Regions: Australia, AMEA, Americas and Europe, and have above 4,000 employees and more than 450 vessels to safely service more than 150 ports and terminals across the globe.

In recent years, we have grown through new contracts and acquisitions, and growing continues to be a focus. At the same time, we are implementing our new Strategy, which prioritises Decarbonization and Technology. However, our standard marine services remain critical to us.

We operate globally 24/7, which means that things rarely stand still. However, we are good at manoeuvring being busy, as we enjoy working as a team by listening to and helping each other. We also appreciate when colleagues voice their opinions.

We have recently embarked on a new journey as we became a separately listed company on the Danish stock exchange in April 2024.

We Offer

In our headquarters, we have a lean and flat structure where you will interact with stakeholders at all levels. We enjoy leading with care and learning from each other. You will have independence to shape your role and contribute to the team's success, thus helping Svitzer advance.

We offer a truly international environment with a professional, engaged, ambitious, yet relaxed atmosphere where we value diversity. Work hours are flexible, especially around examination periods. We expect you to work around 15 to 20 hours per week.

We have a good canteen, and the usual coffee machine and fruit arrangements. In addition, we have a fitness centre, "in office" workouts and arranged workouts every Tuesday and Thursday. We have occasional social activities, the possibility of getting a massage and other nice perks. Most notably, professional, fun, and caring colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

You will be working closely with colleagues both in Copenhagen and across the globe, to deliver the following tasks:

  • Responsible for updating monthly performance package including consolidation and templates for regional input.
  • Update internal management reports and include any improvements requested from Svitzer management.
  • Support the FP&A team and other functions in Group Finance in any other special projects or tasks that might arise. The other functions cover Reporting, Investor Relations, Tax and Treasury.

We are looking for

A person interested in gaining relevant experience in an international company that recognizes the below characteristics and qualifications.

  • You are a confident, self-driven person who approaches tasks with a high level of energy and with a structured and analytical approach to handling assigned tasks.
  • You enjoy taking ownership and responsibility and you are entrepreneurial about finding ways to improve the business.
  • You are on the 1st, or 2nd year of your bachelor’s degree in Finance, Mathematics, Economics or related subjects with the intention to study a master’s degree within the same areas.
  • You are fluent in verbal and written English
  • You have excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, PowerPoint and preferably Power BI for reporting and presentation purposes.
  • You have a flair for communication and good interpersonal skills.
  • Preferably you have some relevant work experience, e.g., from a previous student position.
  • You thrive in a busy and dynamic work environment. You are motivated by the international scope of our business.
  • You have a certain level of business acumen, not necessarily from the maritime industry.
