Team/Role Overview

2nd Line of Defence (2LOD) Operational Risk Management (ORM) is seeking to hire an Operational Risk Vice President to support Functional Coverage of Centralised Operations with a focus on know Your Client (KYC) Operations & Business Operations Shared Services, and Suspicious Activity Reporting (SAR) filing units.

This role is part of the 2LOD and is critical in providing independent oversight, assurance, and effective challenge to the bank’s ORM activities. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of operational & compliance risk within the banking industry, strong analytical skills, and the ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders across the organisation.  Key responsibilities include identifying, assessing, and mitigating operational risks, ensuring compliance with regulations and internal policies, and providing strategic guidance on risk management initiatives.

This role requires experience in risk management practices, strong analytical skills, excellent communication (both written & verbal), and ability to think strategically. 

What you’ll do

  • Support independent oversight and assurance over the bank’s ORM frameworks, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Contribute to risk assessments and reviews of business units to identify, assess, and monitor operational risks, specifically focused on KYC Operations and the SAR filing units.
  • Review and challenge the effectiveness of risk mitigation strategies and control measures implemented by the First Line of Defence (1LOD).
  • Assist with the development of comprehensive and accurate risk reports for senior management & Regulators, highlighting key risks, trends, and emerging issues. Collaborate with other risk functions to provide a holistic view of the Business risk profile.
  • Analyse operational risk data to identify patterns, root causes, and potential areas of concern. Use this information to develop targeted action plans.
  • Leverage risk assessment tools & methodologies to conduct thorough investigations into areas of concern, ensuring that tangible outcomes are achieved.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of significant incidents and ensure that appropriate corrective actions are implemented. Monitor the effectiveness of incident management processes and recommend improvements as necessary.
  • Build & maintain effective working relationships with Operational functions, understanding their needs, strategic priorities, challenges, & opportunities.
  • Provide guidance on risk mitigation strategies, control enhancements, & risk reduction measures.
  • Facilitate risk workshops, training sessions, and awareness programs to promote a strong risk culture within the bank.
  • Leading and guiding a team of risk professionals, providing mentorship, guidance, and performance evaluations.
  • Contribute to the team’s objectives, prioritising tasks effectively and deputise for leadership, when required.
  • Support the development and refinement of Citi’s ORM Frameworks and underpinning Policies, Standards, Procedures.

What we’ll need from you  

  • Risk Management expertise.
  • Knowledge of KYC, SAR & Operational Risk Processes and underlying Policies, Procedures, Regulatory requirements is preferred.
  • Experience in banking products in Consumer, Wealth, Commercial or Payments.
  • Demonstrable problem solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and drive effective challenge.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyse risk data, identify trends, & develop actionable insights.
  • Detail oriented with strong organisational & time management skills, capable of managing multiple tasks & prioritising effectively.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, geographies, and levels/positions.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills through all levels of the organisation, with the ability to articulate & present complex risk concepts.
  • Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred. Exceptional candidates who do not meet these criteria may be considered for the role provided they have the necessary skills and experience.
