Nature and Scope:
The Tool Designer is able to perform tool design tasks with little direct supervision. Daily responsibilities include: interpreting tool order for critical information, developing tooling concepts, reviewing concepts with internal customers, creating manufacturing drawings, monitoring performance to estimated hours, and communicating with 
fabrication personnel to ensure a quality project result. 
Knowledge:
- Solid tooling background with 2--3 years of experience designing and drafting jigs, fixtures, gages, assembly tools, lifting and press tools, or equivalent.
-Working knowledge of GD&T theory and manufacturing practices used to produce ‘Class A’ tooling.
- Good knowledge of 3D parametric solid modeling and data management, ability to perform in ProE, ProE wildfire preferred.
- Able to produce design layouts and tolerance studies
- Able to produce accurate tooling BOMs to support material procurement and fabrication
- Good understanding of engineering principles, Solar design practices, manufacturing processes, and shop capabilities, and able to apply the concepts of stress, heat transfer, and material science.
- Working knowledge of shop safety and ergonomics and their impact on the tooling process.
- Basic knowledge of change management processes and procedures (Windchill preferred).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Participate in tool design reviews with internal customers and appropriate personnel for tooling projects.
- Working understanding of tooling library functions and standardization techniques.

Principal Accountabilities:
- Incorporates diverse safety, quality, cost, and velocity requirements into independent tool designs.
- Performs tool design activities at the tool order level.
- Supports tool plans for NPI programs.
- Works with Senior Tool Designers on tooling projects.
- Participates in 6 Sigma and CPS team activities.
- Implements tool design reviews
