Are you a Specialist Mechanical Engineer looking for an exciting new opportunity? We're recruiting a Specialist Mechanical Engineer, Static Equipment in Fort McMurray.

As a member of our Syncrude Engineering team, you’ll play a key role in maintaining and improving safety & reliability on all Static Equipment classes (e.g. piping, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, furnaces, tanks, boilers etc.) that enable business units to operate safely and reliably.

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Minimum eight years of engineering experience
  • A Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Must be a Professional Engineer or eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGA)
  • Experience in pressure equipment design and maintenance, and knowledge of commonly used design and fabrication codes (ASME, TEMA, etc.) as well as post construction specifications for pressure piping, pressure vessels, furnaces, heat exchangers etc. (ASME PCC, API) 
  • The ability to clearly communicate Engineering designs and procedures to operations and maintenance personnel.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Perform mechanical engineering work relating to static equipment repair and alteration, as well as support for failure investigations and equipment strategy development. 
  • Preparation of high-quality engineering packages/PWPs for use by the maintenance and execution teams.  These include: 
    • Repair packages (both emergency and routine maintenance) 
    • Upgrade packages with management of change (MOC), risk assessment / peer review, preparation of Engineering drawings, data sheets, etc. 
    • Purchase specifications for new and replacement pressure equipment. 
  • Completing equipment assessments, such as minimum thickness calculations, re-rates, material alterations etc. 
  • Take part in API 579 fitness for service (FFS) evaluations (Level 1 and 2) and provide input and review for level 3 FFS reports. 
  • Collaborate with other disciplines and departments including inspectors, Materials Engineering, Process Technical Engineering and others.  
  • Work closely with the Operations and Maintenance personnel in the upgrader to resolve threats to unit health and ensure Engineering solutions are executable and fit-for-purpose.   

 

Location and other Key Details: 

  • You will work out of a Syncrude location in Fort McMurray
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • Our engineering roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
