The Data Science and Digital Health (DSDH) group Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine R&D develops fit-for-purpose technology solutions in support of J&J IM’s key clinical programs. We are looking for an outstanding Director, Data Science – Computer Vision, Microscopy that will lead the development of a cutting-edge technology portfolio in AI, with focus on computer vision and digital pathology. In close partnership with other colleagues in the DSDH and broader R&D organization, the Director will combine deep scientific and technical expertise and excellent project management skills to develop innovative approaches to support drug discovery and development, successfully applying them to J&J IM R&D programs.
Portfolio: Partner within the Data Science organization and with Therapeutic Area and Functional leaders to identify opportunities for impact, conceptualize solutions, prioritize use cases, and align on plans for execution. Manage relationships with key stakeholders to ensure alignment on opportunities and seamless execution. Impactful use cases include: biomarker quantification, patient stratification, disease detection, novel endpoint development, and other applications in drug discovery and development.
Project Execution: Oversee Computer Vision data scientists and matrixed teams to enable development of cutting-edge technology and execution of priority projects from data feasibility, study design and analysis, to final delivery and presentation to senior cross-functional leaders.
Team Leadership: Effectively manage a team of data scientists as they execute on prioritized projects and develop new technologies focused on microscopy / digital pathology. Implement best practices, mentor emerging talent, and support team growth to foster a culture of independence, rigor, and collaboration.
Innovation: Lead large, complex strategic initiatives to drive innovation and efficiency in development and implementation of Computer Vision solutions across Janssen R&D Data Science and Digital Health portfolio. Identify opportunities, influence strategy, and build a roadmap aligned with long-term vision and objectives of the Computer Vision team.
Effective Communication: Communicate progress, results, capabilities, and potential opportunities to broad audience of technical and non-technical stakeholders across different functions of J&J Innovative Medicine, including: compound teams, regulatory teams, commercial stakeholders, diagnostic and biomarker strategy leaders, etc.
Technical Expert: As a subject matter expert, provide thought leadership for developing, adapting, and delivering AI methods for digital pathology, validating them in clinical or preclinical settings, and guiding their deployment at scale.
Lead Field: Translate executed use cases into company intellectual property (patents) and top-tier journal publications to continue to position J&J IM R&D DSDH as a leader in the use of AI in digital pathology.
External Partnerships: Build and cultivate the right partnerships and alliances with internal and external partners in tandem with Business Development, Innovation Centers, etc.
