Senior Management Accountant

Gloucester, Hybrid

Full time Monday to Friday 08:30 - 17:00, offering a salary of between £40,000 and £50,000 per annum, depending on experience.

We have an exciting opportunity in Mears for a Senior Management Accountant to join our busy, friendly finance team.

This will not be your everyday Senior Management Accountant role; we are looking for a specific person who is not afraid to work outside the lines, can work autonomously and switch between contracts.

As such, Mears Group is currently searching for an experienced and professional Senior Management Accountant to support the Regional Finance Director and the successful development of the business by delivering first class management information & analysis, plans & forecasts.

About the Role:

Based at our registered head office in Gloucester, the position will focus on ensuring the company management accounts, budgets and other financial reports are produced in a timely and accurate manner. This is a key role within the UK finance team as you manage the monthly revenue reporting.

You'll co-ordinate and supervise the month-end process and oversee junior accounting staff, as well as supporting the UK Financial Controller with monthly reporting, budgeting, forecasting and other ad hoc tasks while also providing finance support to non-finance staff in the business.

There will be a far amount of data driven work within this role, so having an analytical brain and wanting to find results will be an advantage.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of financial management information for a number of branches and entities within the Group.
  • Analysis of financial and other data in order to make recommendations and implement methods for increasing a branch or entity’s efficiency and profitability.
  • Provision of clear information on both upside and downside risks for a branch or entity’s operation.
  • Develop, manage and support management accountant direct report.
  • Ownership of the preparation of financial MI from source data
  • Analyse, challenge and interrogate stakeholders and systems to understand variances to expectations and emerging trends. Accurate and comprehensive balance sheet maintenance.
  • Assist in the preparation of branch annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.
  • Assist regional finance teams and local operations in work in progress management, the production of cash forecasts and cash collection

Role Criteria:

We are looking for applicants who are graduates and achieved an accounting qualification (either ACCA / CIMA or equivalent). Candidates will ideally have experience of working in a similar role, and within large multi site organisation. The successful candidate will be someone who:

  • Can maintain effective working relationships remotely with finance and non-finance colleagues
  • Ability to control and interrogate high volume data
  • Has good communication skills and shows initiative;
  • Has a methodical approach to work; Outstanding attention to detail
  • Is able to work flexibly and efficiently in order to meet deadlines;
  • Has a good knowledge of accounting standards, and can apply this knowledge to work situations;
  • Has the ability to effectively line manage staff;
  • Proficient in Excel and IT
  • Inquisitive and tenacious nature
