In line with policies/standards and under instructions/controls of management and senior counsel, to provide standard legal advice and counsel to management and staff worldwide on diverse legal issues of medium complexity covering day-to-day operations, legislative trends and changes in the law and assist more senior counsel with complex research/preparation of special reports/etc. in order to minimise legal exposure to risks.

What to expect

In this role you will:

  • Complete legal activities of medium complexity, offering sound legal advice and recommendations to support Swift's operations and ensure adherence to legal obligations.
  • Undertake specific legal studies to investigate and propose guidelines, minimizing company exposure.
  • Draft, review, and recommend company contracts, participate in negotiations, and recommend amendments to contracts worldwide for customers, suppliers, development projects, and more.
  • Ensure regular updates to the company contracts database, providing management and staff with an efficient tool for contract follow-up.
  • Prioritize direct claims procedures and internal actions to improve services.
  • Liaise with management, staff, customers, suppliers, lawyers, and public administrations to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Undertake administrative tasks within the department and serve as an effective back-up for colleagues.
  • Assist with in house Human Resources legal matters.
  • Stay informed about changes in relevant areas of law, such as commercial and competition laws, licensing issues, and financial regulatory matters. This will help identify any potential effects on Swift operations.
  • Lead risk assessments, manage a selection of controls, report on control status, and detect points of control failure.
  • Coach and mentor less experienced colleagues, encouraging a collaborative and inclusive team environment.

What will make you successful?

  • JD, must be eligible to register in VA as a Corporate Counsel
  • 5-7 years of experience in legal matters within an in-house finance/IT/FinTech environment
  • Consistent track record of delivering results following in-depth analyses of relevant issues and conflicting factors.
  • Dedication to operational excellence, finding innovative ways to improve processes, and maintaining high standards for your work.
  • Ability to build and reinforce customer relationships, taking every opportunity to listen and respond to their needs.
  • Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to adapt your style to optimize understanding and respect other views.
  • Strong leadership, an achiever mentality), and ability to work independently in unchartered domains.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in commercial and competition laws, licensing issues, and telecommunication matters.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead risk assessments and handle controls effectively.
  • Consistent record of coaching and mentoring colleagues.
  • Strong project management skills and experience in negotiating high value, strategic contracts on a global scale.

The salary range for this position in Virginia is $124,600 to $227,240 USD, depending on factors like skills and experience. We offer a competitive base salary and bonus opportunity based on personal and company performance.
