Job Summary

Comcast Video IP Engineering & Research, the industry-leading provider of video management, delivery, and publishing solutions, is hiring a multi-talented Engineer 3, in Software Development & Engineering. Comcast helps content providers and video partners meet their unique broadband video publishing requirements. Our services scale with our customers' operations and support their business model with an open, versatile approach to providing the ideal technical solution for their needs. 

This position at Comcast is challenged with solving interesting problems around scalability, high availability, business intelligence and interdepartmental collaboration. We are building a large, distributed system for Comcast X1, Online (Xfinity TV), and periphery sub-systems. This system performs automatic mass-processing of video assets numbering in the millions, including ingest, encoding, distribution, QA, and more. The X1 entertainment system is the world-leading entertainment system providing a high-quality user experience.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong programming and design background with solid Service-Oriented Architecture experience, with a focus on Amazon Web Services system implementation leveraging Kubernetes technology. Key to this role is a deep understanding of how to leverage Cloud to build for scale, high-availability, and performance. Experience with enhancing enterprise systems' operation using automation technology (e.g., Terraform) is important for this position.

The responsibilities of this Software Development role will focus heavily on translation of technical specifications into working code, participation within a fast-moving and diverse team of professionals, and collaboration with stakeholders across organizations to ensure high-quality enhancements are delivered on-time.

Summary

Responsible for planning and designing new software, primarily cloud-based provisioning automation. Analyzes, tests, and assists with the integration of new applications. Documents all development activity. Assists with training technical & non-technical personnel. Has in-depth experience, knowledge and skills in own discipline. Works with the team to determines work priorities. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities

-Collaborates with project stakeholders to identify & review product and technical requirements. Conducts analysis to determine integration needs.  

- Designs new software and applications, supports applications under development, and enhances  current applications. Drives the software update process for existing applications & associated components, and roll-outs software releases.  

- Participates in training representatives and operations staff on internally developed software applications.  

- Researches, writes and edits documentation and technical requirements, including software designs, evaluation plans, test results, technical manuals and formal recommendations and reports.  

- Monitors and evaluates competitive applications and products. Reviews literature, patents and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects.  

- Provides technical leadership throughout the design process and guidance with regards to practices, procedures and techniques. Serves as a guide and mentor for junior-level Software Development Engineers.  

- Works with Quality Assurance team to ensure applications fit specification and technical requirements.  

- Displays in-depth knowledge of, and ability to apply, process design and redesign skills. Presents and defends architectural, design, and technical choices to internal audiences.  

- Displays knowledge of, and ability to apply, project management skills.  

- Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.  

- Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) as necessary.  

- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.  

Other Requirements

- Proficiency with Python, AWS implementations using Lambda, API GW, IAM. 

- SDVI platform experience is a plus. 

- High level of proficiency in system implementation, particularly with Service Oriented Architectures, and Serverless Computing (Lambda) is a big plus. 

- Proficiency with CI/CD (Concourse) systems/patterns
