The Lead Environmental Services Technician is responsible for carrying out set plans and leading department activities such as huddles and coordination of labor during their shift to ensure all hospital areas are safe, orderly and in sanitary condition in the absence of the supervisor. The job may entail access, cleaning or transporting of hazardous, pharmaceutical, chemotherapy chemical, soiled or other regulated materials. This individual will perform cleaning of public areas, patient rooms, surgical suites, ancillary, administrative offices, and physician areas to ensure a clean, safe and attractive environment for staff, patients, physicians and visitors. This position is exposed to hazardous materials and a variety of infectious diseases.

Responsibilities
Core Responsibilites and Essential Functions

Quality & Safety
* Serves as a preceptor for new hires and uses on time demonstration to drive performance
* Inspects random areas while at work to assess completion and quality of work.
* Maintains a safe environment for patients, visitors and other staff members as well as self by following department policies
* Performs full range of cleaning duties as required in the Environmental Services Technician positions
* Reinforces all departmental practices focused on HCAHP scores and HAI’s
Budget/Finance
* Ensures that proper and adequate supplies and equipment are available to accomplish assignment and to prevent non-productive time
* Order supplies and keeps proper inventory minimizing excess
* Shift staff according to volumes and need in order to maximize productivity
Customer Service
* Maintains courteous and cooperative working relationships with WHS management, patients, physicians, other professional contacts and the general public
* Demonstrates ability to tactfully handle difficult situations and is able to manage up people and situations

* Completes annual mandatory training as required
* Attends select departmental meetings at the request of WHS Management
* Provides proper notice of absences, tardies and schedule deviations
* Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Required Minimum Education High school diploma Required or
Equivalent Required

Required Minimum Experience

Minimum 1 year of experience in housekeeping/environmental services role in Healthcare, Hospitality or Class A Commercial field. Required

Required Minimum Skills

Basic computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Word;
operate enhanced Environmental Services Technologies (ultra-violet disinfecting technology);
communicate effectively in the English language;
work effectively in a fast paced environment with continuous exposure to known occupational risk factors;
lead departmental huddles and reassign staff to meet the need of the facility;
perform a proper terminal clean in the OR, ER and IP care areas;
able to serve as a front line team member in most areas of the facility;
effectively communicate with diverse work groups which include clinical and business departments;
train employees and serve as a positive role model and preceptor;
demonstrate compliance with departmental and organizational policies and regulations; problem solving and manging up.


Able to use and teach proper customer service scripting; ordering supplies and linen to par levels; familiar with floor cleaning and maintenance equipment;
proficient on cleaning all clinical settings

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s)

CHEST preferred (Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Technician) Preferred
