We are currently seeking motivated Mining Engineering Students with a strong focus on safety who are interested in gaining experience as Heavy Equipment Operators. In this role, you will have the opportunity to operate Caterpillar 797 haul trucks in one of our Syncrude Mine Sites. You will be driving these trucks in safe proximity to a wide variety of mining heavy equipment. The shift offered will be 6 days on, 6 days off; the 6 on will be 3 days and then 3 nights. This position offers valuable experience in mining operations and provides a solid foundation for a successful career in the mining industry.

For those 8 months or longer, you may be placed first as an HEO as part of our multi-term HEO/office program. This program is a 4-month HEO/ 4+ month office plan – getting exposure to operations and then moving to a technical role.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate Mining/Geological/Civil Engineering program

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited academic institution and returning to school full time after the internship

Responsibilities:

  • Safe and reliable operation of heavy equipment

  • Meet or exceed all production targets

  • Adhere to all environment, health, and safety policies and procedures

Location & Other Key Details:

  • This is a 4, 8, or 12 month term commitment beginning in January or May 2024

  • These roles are located in multiple sites in Fort McMurray at our Mildred Lake or Aurora Mine Site

  • Students who live and work in Fort McMurray are eligible for a cash allowance to address the cost of living and the remote challenges associated with the region

  • Relocation support will be provided if required

  • These positions are safety sensitive

  • Shift: 6-6 (3 days & 3 nights , 6 days off)
