Job Description:

Department Overview

Canadian Privacy is part of the Global Compliance department and has a mandate for promoting a culture of privacy compliance and oversees TD’s privacy practices and initiatives regarding customer and employee information. The Canadian Privacy
Office has oversight of privacy risk in Canada. It provides specialized advice and counsel to Risk Owners (businesses and corporate functions), reports and escalates privacy issues of key importance within TD, provides training and liaises with and reports to key regulators.


As a centre of excellence, and second line of defence Oversight Function, Canadian Privacy along with other risk and oversight partners provide objective guidance, independent challenge and risk-based oversight of TD's compliance with Canadian privacy laws, rules and regulations globally.

Job Description

This role reports to the Senior Manager, Canadian Privacy Office and supports various activities within Privacy, with an emphasis on leading Canadian Privacy's Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) activities as an Oversight Function and Risk Owner, reporting, development, implementation and management of governance frameworks, policies and standards and strategic projects.
Key accountabilities include:

  • Maintain Canadian Privacy's inventory of laws, rules and regulations (LRRs) and mapping to Risk Owners

  • Provide objective guidance, support and advice to promote strong privacy controls and processes.

  • Work with the Privacy team on meeting RCM accountabilities for CPO as both an Oversight Function and Risk Owner

  • Develop privacy-related risk assessments, metrics and reporting mechanisms to assess the health of the privacy program

  • Support regulatory change for Canada as a jurisdictional Privacy Office Regulatory Change Lead

  • Support industry advocacy activities in relation to upcoming regulatory changes

  • Develop, update, and monitor the effectiveness of privacy related governance frameworks, Policies, and associated procedures, standards and guidelines, ensuring appropriate coordination with stakeholders

  • Support strategic projects and program governance activities (e.g., uplift and maintain Canadian Privacy documentation/engagement models in alignment with new regulatory compliance management (RCM) and risk standards)

  • Support strategic transaction due diligence (Canada and/or cross-jurisdictional) to understand privacy risks associated with proposed transactions TD is looking to undertake.

  • Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and be an ambassador for TD's privacy program across the organization

  • Contribute to, and support, the execution of the Global Privacy strategy and programs

  • Assess/identify key issues/risks and escalate to appropriate levels, where required. • Participate fully as a member of the Privacy team through collaboration, sharing of privacy knowledge and expertise and identify ways to innovate our processes. • Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of Privacy governance documentation (e.g., policies, standards, guidelines and processes).

  • Lead/support special projects, as required.

Other Qualifications / Skills / Experience

  • Ability to understand and interpret complex laws and regulations (knowledge of relevant Canadian and international privacy legislation would be considered an asset).

  • Ability to work independently, think critically and make decisions;

  • Collaborate with a variety of stakeholders to influence, build consensus and effect creative and responsive solutions;

  • Attention to detail; and organizational and business awareness.

  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced/evolving environment.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to interact at all levels of the organization and tailor communications to the intended audience.

  • Experience developing governance documentation (i.e., policies, frameworks, processes, guidelines), reporting, and presentations.

  • Experience managing enterprise initiatives/projects.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint

Education and Accreditation

  • Undergraduate degree (or equivalent)

  • 3+ years relevant experience in a Legal, Compliance and/or Risk Management function

  • Previous privacy experience, including a designation with the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), would be considered an asset.
