Key/Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Provides support, on-the-job training and mentoring to paraprofessionals in assigned classrooms.
  • Collaborates with student teams to support the implementation of individualized IEPs and Student Support Plans for students in assigned classrooms.
  • Assists Paraprofessional Supervisor with day-to-day oversight of paraprofessionals in assigned classrooms, monitoring attendance, professionalism and performance; escalates concerns to supervisor during regular check-ins or more frequently, if needed.
  • Participates in performance evaluation process for paraprofessionals, providing feedback to Paraprofessional Supervisor regarding strengths, areas for improvement and overall effectiveness of paraprofessionals; assists in goal-setting for paraprofessional staff, as requested.   
  • Provides support to assigned classrooms and teachers including, but not limited to obtaining and preparing necessary resources (e.g. equipment, educational materials, etc.), making copies, collecting, filing or distributing items or documents and assisting during crisis situations.
  • Follows all appropriate policies and procedures relating to the care and safety of students and their individual management needs in assigned classrooms and may direct or assist paraprofessionals with their individual students, as needed. 
  • Assists Paraprofessional Supervisor with addressing paraprofessional coverage needs and creating schedules for assigned classrooms and/or division.
  • In collaboration with teachers, reviews and ensures completion of daily notes by paraprofessionals in assigned classrooms; escalates concerns to Paraprofessional Supervisor.
  • Completes and updates logs, appropriately documenting incidents in appropriate electronic and physical files or forms; enters information into various electronic forms and templates, printing and filing, as needed.
  • Provides coverage, performing duties of paraprofessional in classroom to support students and/or teachers, if necessary; assists with feeding or other complex needs or during school-wide events or trainings, as needed.  
  • Participates in staff development training programs, administration or student/classroom meetings; may participate in special events as requested or assigned.
  • Assists Director of Paraprofessionals with planning for paraprofessional and classroom-related operational needs, providing feedback and generating ideas and supports implementation of new initiatives, processes and/or procedures by assisting with training and/or directing paraprofessional staff.
  • Complies with all Federal, State, Local and other relevant regulatory agency requirements, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Performs all other duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements including education, experience, licensure/certification, etc. and essential physical capabilities (e.g. lifting, assisting lifting, standing, etc.)

  • High school Diploma/GED or equivalent; and
  • Two (2) years of related healthcare, direct support, childcare and/or other school-based experience.
  • Willing and able to assist students with a variety of supports and activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal and intimate care needs (e.g. toileting, diapering, etc.).
  • Must be well organized with superior attention to detail and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Able to work with a great degree of independence and focus.
  • Basic computer skills, including ability to locate electronic documents in shared drives and proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs, specifically Outlook and Word.

Preferred Qualification Requirements (desired requirements beyond MQRs above)

  • Associate’s degree or coursework and/or formal training in education, human and/or health services
  • Current certification in First Aid and/or CPR AED
  • Familiarity with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD)

Compensation ranges from $18.31-$21.41
