About This Opportunity 

This leadership position seeks a strategic thinker to join the UQ Library. The successful candidate will drive innovation, foster a positive work environment, and ensure the library's services align with the institution's goals through;

  • Strategic Leadership: Developing and implementing the library's strategic direction.

  • Staff Management: Leading and motivating the library team to achieve excellence.

  • Service Improvement: Continuously enhancing library services to meet user needs.

  • Performance Management: Analysing and benchmarking library performance.

  • Risk Management: Ensuring the library's resilience and compliance.

  • Administrative Oversight: Managing the library's day-to-day operations.

Key responsibilities will include: 

Stakeholder Management & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify growth opportunities, develop strategies aligned with unit objectives, and gather data to inform and improve library services.

  • Foster a culture of evidence-based practice within the library team by providing guidance, support, and risk management expertise.

Strategy & Operations

  • Identify performance issues, lead service improvement initiatives, and implement frameworks to measure and communicate the value of library services.

  • Provide expert advice on change management, evidence-based practice, and future directions. Implement programs and policies to improve operational efficiency and foster a positive library culture.

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and wellness regulations. Implement a service portfolio management approach to maintain relevance and value and support strategic planning and service design.

Leadership and Management

  • Oversee a team of senior professionals responsible for library service portfolio management, strategic initiatives, data, reporting, and ways of working. Provide effective leadership, guidance, and coaching to enhance team capability and performance.

  • Actively participate in team planning, activities, and goal achievement, while contributing to broader library objectives as needed.

About You  

Essential

  • Proven experience in business, librarianship, or project management, coupled with a deep understanding of organizational change, strategic planning, and assessment methodologies. Ability to lead service development and organizational change initiatives.

  • Strong analytical skills, including data analysis and visualization. Excellent written and communication skills, with the ability to produce compelling reports and business cases.

  • Demonstrated emotional intelligence, negotiation skills, and ability to build collaborative relationships. Effective people management skills, including mentoring and leading teams in a fast-paced environment. Commitment to the University's values and a mindset of inclusivity and support.

Desirable

  • Relevant degree and/or postgraduate qualification which qualifies for professional associate membership of the Australian Library and Information Association.

You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment and may be required to complete background checks including, criminal history and education checks.
