Who We Are

Nuro exists to better everyday life through robotics. The company’s custom electric autonomous vehicles are designed to bring the things you need—from produce to prescriptions—right to your home. Nuro’s autonomous, goods-focused solution can give you valuable time back and more freedom to do what you love. This convenient, eco-friendly alternative to driving has the potential to make streets safer and cities more livable.

About the Role

Simulation is at the core of autonomy development. The Sim Core team is responsible for building the core simulator that powers all simulations at Nuro, allowing us to develop and test our autonomous driving technology in a repeatable and scalable manner. The team focuses on tackling various challenges associated with executing the autonomy system in a fully virtual setting - from data integration and orchestration, to performance and resource optimization, to framework and interface design - collaborating with teams across the company to set and expand the range of what’s possible to simulate.

As the lead of this area, you’ll also define technical strategies and roadmaps, design processes, frameworks and approaches, set architectural direction and evolve systems around it, and mentor team members on design, execution, and engineering excellence. If you are an experienced technical leader and people manager looking to tackle unique challenges instrumental to the enabling the development of autonomy, leading the Sim Core team would be the perfect fit.

About the Work

  • Build and lead a team to expand the functionality, performance, and usability of our core simulator
  • Guide architectural designs to unify and simplify the interactions of complex systems
  • Define strategies and set direction across a large array of potential efforts, ranging from new greenfield projects to expanding/scaling existing systems.
  • Work closely with teams that use simulation, including evaluation/metrics teams, autonomy engineers, and systems engineers.
  • Drive extensive collaborations with other teams and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver integrated solutions, especially teams that build the infrastructure that simulation depends on.

About You

  • You have 5+ years of technical leadership experience in software engineering or related fields.
  • You have 2+ years of experience working on simulation for autonomous vehicles or other areas of autonomous vehicle development.
  • You have demonstrated ability to lead a team to navigate complex challenges and deliver highly-effective solutions.
  • You care deeply about technical excellence, and have experience maintaining and raising the technical bar for the team.
  • You are a hands-on technical leader and mentor for other engineers.
  • You enjoy tackling challenges in new problem spaces, solving pivotal problems, and building real solutions to bring your ideas to life.
  • You thrive in a highly-collaborative environment, working effectively with engineers, PMs, and other stakeholders on project ideas, prioritization, and execution.
  • You’re experienced with all stages of a product’s lifecycle. You can effectively direct a team to take a product from zero to one or scale an existing one up to be relied upon in critical pipelines and workflows.
  • You have start-up DNA: You have demonstrated an ability to thrive in the ambiguity of a dynamic, start-up environment or have the DNA to do so.
  • You are passionate about bettering everyday life through robotics.

Bonus Points

  • Previous experience in AV simulation or robotics.
