Solar Turbines Inc. seeks Principal Design Engineer at its facility located at 9250 Sky Park Court, San Diego, California 92123.
PAY: $116,709/year
JOB DUTIES:
Responsible for the design of turbomachinery and electric motor drive control systems for Solar Turbines’ production equipment. Focus on large engine compressor set and mechanical drive applications. Responsible for executing projects with a defined customer and contract (sales order). Utilize the Solar core product design and implement customizations defined by Solar’s client or end user. Develop the Electrical Loop Schematics (ELS)which define the electrical and instrumentation utilized as part of the turbomachinery control and equipment. The ELS also identify control interface with external systems such as external safety systems or supervisory control systems or third-party OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers) equipment. Responsible for developing the programable logic controller (PLC)operating logic, utilizing Rockwell Automation’s RS Logix 5000programming application. The control logic is used for operation of all the systems that support the gas turbine, centrifugal gas compressor, electric generator or other driven equipment. The systems include lube oil, fuel gas, seal gas, instrument air as well as other equipment health monitoring. Responsible for developing the human machine interface (HMI) displays for the turbomachinery equipment. The HMI’s provide visualization for all of the operating conditions of the turbomachinery equipment and auxiliaries. The HMI’s are programmed using Solar’s proprietary Turbotronic Tools and Turbotronic software as well as Adobe Dreamweaver. Require to interface with several internal organizations including: Business Development, Business Management, and meet schedules while maintaining high quality. Utilize technical knowledge on Solar Turbines turbomachinery control system and methane emissions reduction system design architecture and automation. Field experience and project leadership in retrofit and new equipment commissioning, operation and troubleshooting of Solar Turbines turbomachinery and third-party OEM driven equipment at Customer site Mechanical drives and OEM driven equipment. Travel Req: >25%- Domestic and International.
REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field and 7 years of experience operating and providing field service support of industrial gas turbines and Controls system programming for industrial gas turbines. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Control system test, commissioning, PLC and HMI programming and troubleshooting of controls design logic; (2) Control specifications and verifying compliance; (3) Mechanical drives and OEM driven equipment, Industrial gas turbines and compressors; (4) Execution of field string test; (5) Retrofit and new equipment commissioning, operation and troubleshooting of Industrial gas turbines and integration of OEM-driven equipment at Customer site; and (6) Communicating directly with customers and end users regarding technical topics.
