The opportunity

We are hiring an Investment Associate to join our San Francisco office. You will be supporting TVG’s North American direct investments team. As an Investment Associate, you will play a key role in all aspects of the investment process: origination, deal execution, due diligence, and portfolio monitoring.

Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan (OTPP) is a global investor with net assets of $247.5 billion as at December 31, 2023. We invest in a broad array of assets including public and private equities, fixed income, credit, commodities, natural resources, infrastructure, real estate and venture growth to deliver retirement income for 340,000 working members and pensioners. Teachers' Venture Growth (TVG) is the division of OTPP focused on investing in high-growth technology companies. TVG’s 35 investors work from offices in San Francisco, Toronto, London, Hong Kong, Singapore and Mumbai. Our mission is to support and scale innovative companies, while delivering outsized risk adjusted returns for our members. TVG focuses on investing into companies with established product market fit, and where our initial commitments may range from $50M - $250M of equity. Specific sectors of investment focus include: AI, enterprise software, climate / energy transition, frontier technology, and financial services. Existing portfolio companies include names such as SpaceX, Databricks, Canva, Bilt Rewards, DeepL, and Epic Games.

Who you'll work with

The Investment Associate will work cross-functionally and collaboratively with other teams to ensure continued alignment with OTPP’s mission, vision and values.

What you’ll do

  • Develop investment theses and create memos to be presented to the investment committee

  • Perform financial modelling and analysis (financial projections, sensitivity analysis, valuations, and returns)

  • Drive sector research to identify investment targets and perform competitive analysis

  • Evaluate and monitor the ongoing performance of portfolio company investments

  • Develop and maintain relationships with startups, entrepreneurs, investment professionals, and service providers to facilitate deal sourcing

  • Support ongoing strategic initiatives and reporting requirements

What you’ll need

  • Undergraduate degree

  • Minimum 2 years of investment or deal experience (investment banking, private equity, VC, hedge fund, management consulting)

  • Mastery in financial modelling, valuation, and quantitative analysis

  • Strong work ethic, team mindset, communication & presentation skills

  • Ability to operate independently with limited supervision

  • High proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint

  • Relevant experience and keen interest in start-ups and disruptive technologies
