Job Summary
The Internal Auditor, as an entry level role, assists in the completion and documentation of risk based internal audit internal audit assurance activities in accordance with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), general auditing, and accounting principles standards. This role assists with formal auditing exercises including assisting with planning and executing audits, creating documentation, and identification of improvement opportunities.
Job Responsibilities
- Under guidance of management, participate in client interviews documenting interview results via narratives, flowcharts and process maps for complex business processes
- Execute testing strategy, continuing to learn, understand and improve in performing documentation processes and following methodologies
- Complete documentation following process and documentation requirements and assist with the audit documentation analysis helping to evaluate design effectiveness and efficiency of controls
- Learn and understand Company operations, applying Company policies and procedures and regulatory guidelines in performance of auditing tasks
- Identify internal control weaknesses, including risks and root cause; analyze and evaluate how the line of business controls the risks, communicating audit progress and/ or roadblocks to appropriate leadership
- Create, present and communicate identified audit issues to appropriate location and Audit leadership
- Assist team members as requested in prepping for meetings and presentations including data gathering and preparation of materials
- Perform additional relevant duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Basic understanding of theory and practice of operational internal controls and protection of company assets and knowledge of internal auditing practices and regulatory trends
- Good computer skills, knowledge of MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) sand relevant job-related software
- Knowledge of requirements for planning and executing control tests and compiling technical data into easily understood reports
- Knowledge of IIA Standards and regulatory guidance with ability to apply in standardized situations as well as non-routine problems
- Strong customer focus with the ability to effectively communicate, both verbal and written, internally and with external customers/ agencies in a timely and professional manner
- Ability to define, research and present a solution to correct issues
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment using excellent organizational skills, precise attention to detail with an ability to prioritize projects as needed
- Must possess a strong customer-centric attitude, high energy level and a strong sense of urgency
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and maintain a productive and committed work effort, meeting deadlines and managing workload.
- Ability to travel 10 – 25%
Education
- The position requires a Bachelors’ degree in Accounting, Finance, Audit, or related field from an accredited institution. A Professional Accounting certification (e.g. CIA, CPA, CMA, CFE, etc) preferred, but not required
Experience
- Familiarity with internal auditing processes in conformance with IIA’s International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing, COSO frameworks, and Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404
- Experience in the poultry or other protein industry preferred but not required
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Office
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to risk of injury in an office environment. Duties include a typical office setting including extensive computer work, sitting or standing. Employee must have the ability to work non-standard shifts (holidays, weekends, and/or extended shifts) as required by business need and periodically travel to field locations to provide training, support, and project work as needed.
