Senior Professional Band Engineer (SPB3) – Generator Stationary Systems Engineer within the Generator and Electrical Systems (GES) team in Gas Power Engineering with focus on turbo-generator stationary components.

Job Description

Job Description Summary

As a Senior Professional Band Engineer (SPB3) – Generator Stationary Systems Engineer within the Generator and Electrical Systems (GES) team in Gas Power Engineering, you will provide technical leadership for generator stationary systems across both New Unit and Services programs, supporting GE Vernova’s global generator fleet and product lines. This role is responsible for leading system-level engineering activities associated with stationary generator components and assemblies across GES global sites, ensuring robust design execution, technical rigor, product quality, and alignment with business and customer needs.

The Generator Stationary Systems Engineer will serve as a key technical leader for the stationary portion of the generator system, driving design, analysis, integration, validation, issue resolution, and continuous improvement across requisition, NPI/NTI, fleet support, rewinds/uprates, and field issue response. The role requires a strong systems perspective, with responsibility for balancing component-level design needs against overall generator performance, manufacturability, serviceability, cost, reliability, and safety.

The ideal candidate will bring deep generator engineering expertise, strong cross-functional leadership skills, and the ability to drive technical decisions across a globally distributed engineering organization. This position has broad latitude for independent action and will have significant impact on product performance, quality, delivery, safety, and long-term fleet reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering activities for generator stationary systems across New Unit and Services applications, supporting the full product lifecycle from concept and design through validation, manufacturing, installation, and fleet operation.
  • Provide system-level technical leadership for stationary generator hardware and interfaces, including integration across generator internal components, supporting structures, insulation systems, cooling features, and adjacent generator/electrical system interfaces.
  • Drive technical execution across GES global sites, ensuring alignment of design approaches, engineering practices, lessons learned, and issue resolution strategies across the global team.
  • Support and mentor engineers in the design, analysis, verification, and development of generator stationary systems and components for NTI, NPI, requisition, rewinds/uprates, and fleet support programs.
  • Lead technical decision-making for complex generator stationary system issues, applying sound engineering judgment to balance safety, quality, cost, schedule, manufacturability, and performance requirements.
  • Investigate and resolve complex technical issues impacting production and fleet operation, including active participation and leadership in NCR, SDR, ER, and RCA processes.
  • Develop and improve stationary system design methods, design practices, qualification strategies, and engineering tools to enable robust and standardized global execution.
  • Partner closely with Manufacturing, Sourcing, Services, Repair, Quality, Product Line, Project Engineering, and Field Engineering teams to ensure successful design execution and issue resolution.
  • Provide technical leadership for service events, fleet concerns, and emergent customer issues related to generator stationary systems, including root cause analysis and corrective action definition.
  • Support development and implementation of design improvements that enhance reliability, producibility, maintainability, and lifecycle cost of generator stationary systems.
  • Establish and maintain technical requirements, design data, and engineering guidance documentation for stationary systems to support consistency across the GES organization.
  • Contribute to strategic technology and product improvement initiatives aimed at strengthening generator stationary system capability, standardization, and fleet performance globally.
  • Promote product safety, quality, and continuous improvement using Lean principles and disciplined engineering processes.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in generator engineering, rotating equipment, or power generation product design, with demonstrated technical depth in generator systems or major generator components.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex technical programs or resolving challenging engineering issues across cross-functional teams.
  • Strong understanding of generator design, manufacturing, assembly, validation, and service considerations, with the ability to operate from a system-level perspective.
  • Experience working across both new product / new unit and services / fleet support environments.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to global engineering, manufacturing, repair, or customer sites as required to support technical and business needs.

Desired Qualifications

  • Deep technical expertise in generator stationary systems, including experience with stationary structural, electrical, thermal, insulation, and manufacturing considerations.
  • Ability to lead with a systems mindset, recognizing component interactions and broader impacts to generator performance, quality, schedule, and cost.
  • Strong technical leadership presence with the ability to influence and align teams across a global matrixed organization.
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop engineers while driving consistent technical rigor and accountability.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make sound technical and business decisions in situations with limited or incomplete data.
  • Experience with RCA, field issue resolution, and disposition of non-conforming hardware.
  • Demonstrated Lean / Continuous Improvement mindset.
  • Familiarity with PLM systems, engineering documentation, design practices, and configuration-controlled product definitions.
  • Strong collaboration skills with Manufacturing, Sourcing, Services, Repair, and supplier partners to ensure successful hardware execution and fleet support.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly across technical, operational, and leadership teams.
  • Flexible, self-motivated, and able to manage a broad and challenging workload in a fast-paced engineering environment.
