The Role

The Staff Counsel, eDiscovery Services provides review services in dispute and corporate due diligence matters under the direction of Norton Rose Fulbright (NRF) lawyers.  The Staff Counsel role serves as a Team Lead to coordinate communications between the NRF lawyers and the contract review teams.  In addition, the Staff Counsel performs QC and other discovery related tasks, including but not limited to, key document summaries, issues analysis, chronologies and privilege log creation. 

This position is based in either Austin, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Minneapolis or St. Louis.  This team is 100% remote, with the requirement to be flexible to come to the office for meetings or training.  The Staff Counsel reports to the Senior Manager, Document Review Services in Houston.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Review, analyze, and code documents for responsiveness, relevancy, confidentiality, issues, and privilege
  • Participate in initial review trainings and team meetings
  • Conduct quality control review of document coding and redactions for accuracy
  • Coordinate, monitor, and quality check the work performed by the first level reviewers
  • Responsible for identifying, escalating and tracking questions and issues to Norton Rose Fulbright lawyers and other practice support professionals
  • Prepare and edit privilege log for production
  • Perform review and analysis of contracts and agreements according to specified criteria

Qualifications and experience

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited institution
  • Licensed and in good standing to practice in state of employment i.e. Texas, Minnesota or Missouri
  • Minimum 3 years of document review experience preferred
  • Strong grasp and knowledge of document review platforms
  • Excellent analytical, problem identification and resolution skills
  • Superior attention to detail
  • Proven and demonstrable dedication to work product quality
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively under rigorous deadlines
  • Thorough understanding of attorney-client and attorney work product privilege
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with project managers, lawyers, and other document review attorneys
  • Ability to work both as part of team and independently with appropriate supervision
  • Willingness to provide after hours, overtime, and weekend support as necessary
