Senior Claims Handler is responsible for managing volume and complex claims across professional indemnity, management liability, directors and officers and general liability.
 

Senior Claims Handler support the manager as a support to other colleagues.

Key tasks and responsibilities

·       Manage end to end case load of financial lines and liability claims within specified financial authority limits.

·       Apply legal principles relevant to both coverage and liability considerations to all financial lines/liability claims and provide technical support to claims handlers when required.

·       Prepare claims reports (including Large Loss Reports) for internal and re-insurance requirements and provide regular updates on claim developments which trigger reporting thresholds.

·       Ensure claims are handled in accordance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements (including Lloyd’s) and that reserves are entered in accordance with the company’s stated reserving philosophy.

·       The engagement of and provision of instructions to Coverage and Defence counsel in accordance with Claims Handling Guidelines on both volume and complex claims.

·       Develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and regularly communicate on claims trends and legal and regulatory considerations impacting claims management. 

·       Provide wording recommendations to the product team on an ongoing and regular basis with the support of the Claims Manager.

·       Take ownership and responsibility for operational tasks including claims payments, reconciliations, portfolio reporting, claims histories and file audits.

·       Ensure claim files are regularly reviewed with all appropriate correspondence and file notes attached.

·       Suggest, recommend and implement process improvement initiatives on reporting, claims systems and claims guidelines.

Senior team member responsibilities:

  • Assist the manager in supervising team members in dedicated team by providing training, guidance, mentoring; assist in providing feedback.

  • Support the manager in overseeing work of junior roles.

  • Act as a local leader, being a role model and by providing guidance to the team members.

General responsibilities:

  • Collaborate effectively with other business units.

  • Adhere to company’s policies, procedures and local guidance as well as to the legislation.

  • Other reasonable duties as directed by the business, within the scope of the role.

Role requirements and skills

  • Law degree - preferable.
  • Experience at an insurance law firm or in house claims team preferable
  • Good working knowledge of Insurance Contracts Act and other applicable common and statutory law.

  • Good knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements relevant to claims handling.

  • Analytical skills and good attention to detail.

  • Excellent organisation and time management skill

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Enthusiastic, positive attitude.

  • Flexibility, ability to multi-task and deliver initiatives within a short timeframe.

  • Interest in technological solutions to drive the robust management of claims.
