Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Supports SME experts for the Property, Casualty and Marine Treaties.
- Acts as liaison between MSMM/MSIJ/reinsurance brokers in a true team environment to ensure up to date and timely communication among all interested parties. Works closely with Legal department to ensure required reporting to NYDFS is accurate and timely.
- Maintains the market security file. Manages compliance of the security between MSMM and its key reinsurance partners (brokers and reinsurers) ensuring compliance with NY DFS Regulation No. 98 governing reinsurance intermediaries and NY DFS Regulation 20, governing credit for reinsurance and MSMM standards
- Coordinates and ensures timely delivery of materials for treaty negotiations including loss, premium, catastrophe, operations overviews.
- Reviews wording of all assumed business handled by program unit and provide the technical analysis to the management and our program unit. Work with Legal department to update Contracts, Clauses, as needed.
- Responsible for all reinsurance reporting required by MSIJ. (I.e. Risk Profile, Credit Risk Management Report.) Prior consultation to the staff of Office of CEO, who is in charge of reinsurance.
- Ensures accurate treaty/facultative reinsurance terms are entered into our reinsurance system (PRS). Ensures accurate document (incl. Bordereau) to be sent to external party’s incl. MSIJ.
- Serves as a Subject Matter Expert for underwriting in complex booking, payment and collection of reinsurance balances (premiums and claims accounting) due to/from MSMM reinsurance partners to ensure proper and timely booking and cash flow.
- Develops financial analysis reports in order to review markets based on internal risk guidance to support active reinsurance placements.
- Liaise with Reinsurers as required, assisting with Reinsurer queries to ensure accurate data reporting and premium and claim payment / reporting
- Responsible for oversight, process documentation and guideline creation for domestic and international treaties
- Provide support to underwriters and claims as needed
- Complete audit compliance and SOX controls as necessary
- Ad-hoc analysis as required
- Collaborate with internal and external business partners, such as Accounting, Underwriting, IT, Reinsurers, and Brokers.
- Participates in special projects and multi-departmental teams.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Accounting or Actuarial studies from a four-year college or university is required
- 8 years related reinsurance experience is required
- Strong negotiation skills
- CPCU helpful or related reinsurance education (i.e. IIA Associates Degree in Reinsurance)
- Strong organizational and time management skills
