At Leidos, the Digital Modernization Sector brings together our digital transformation and IT programs, allowing us to better serve our customers through scale and repeatability. We are currently seeking a Senior Statistician to work with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) manages the Chronic Conditions Warehouse (CCW) and Virtual Research Data Center (VRDC) under the Office of Enterprise Data and Analytics (OEDA). These programs provide critical data resources for researchers and policymakers, facilitating the analysis of healthcare data to improve patient care and reduce costs.

The Senior Statistician will lead statistical and analytic efforts within these programs, providing expert guidance on data analysis methodologies and managing complex data science projects.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Leadership in Data Science: Lead data science projects and tasks, providing oversight and direction to ensure successful project execution.
  • Advisory Role: Advise on analytic approaches and statistical methods, including deterministic and probabilistic data linkage techniques.
  • Data Analysis and Modeling: Perform complex statistical analyses and predictive modeling, utilizing advanced statistical software packages.
  • Data Mining and Product Development: Provide leadership on data mining tasks and direction on the development of analytic data products.
  • Presentations and Training: Present findings and provide training to CCW user audiences, effectively communicating complex statistical concepts and results.
  • Quality Assurance and Review: Conduct formal and informal reviews of data analysis processes and outcomes, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support the implementation of analytic methodologies and ensure data integrity.
  • Issue Escalation: Identify and escalate issues to senior members and leadership teams as necessary, ensuring timely resolution and project continuity.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics or a related field, or at least eight (8) years of experience in statistical analysis.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience working with and analyzing Medicare and Medicaid data, including enrollment, entitlement, beneficiary demographics, and claims.
  • Extensive knowledge and skills with using Databricks, Snowflake, and Tableau.
  • Proficient in statistical software packages including SAS (proficient in PROC SQL and Macro), R, and Python.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in Statistics, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Experience leading large-scale healthcare data analysis projects, particularly within federal or state government environments.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex statistical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated expertise in data visualization and reporting, using tools such as Tableau.
  • Experience in mentoring and training junior analysts and statisticians.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $81,250.00 - $146,875.00
