We are looking for a Design CAD Manager to join our team in one of today’s most exciting technologies. This role will report to the Senior Manager, Sr. Principal Civil Engineer and will be based in San Jose, CA. This is a fully on-site, in office role 5 days a week.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain in-house drafting standards, guidelines for drawing preparation, plan set templates, and detail library
  • Oversee process improvement, file management, accuracy, and timeliness across all drafting
  • Delegate tasks to assistant CAD technicians and coordinate workflow distribution
  • Provide support to India-based drafting team, including coordination across time zones, training on standards and processes, and occasional travel to India for team development
  • Support day-to-day design team drafting activities as project workload requires
  • Assist Design Team members with project management, development of new processes, and deliverables
  • Train new employees (both domestic and international) on implemented CAD standards
  • Collaborate with engineers, CAD technicians, and designers to transform existing record maps, GIS files, and design plans into comprehensive base files for complex design layouts using CAD software
  • Input design specifications into CAD software and manage CAD models, overall plan preparation, and drawing revision control
  • Manage CAD and project files within data management system
  • Create surface and solid CAD models according to project specifications
  • Work collaboratively and independently on CAD projects to prepare complex utility site layouts, detailed construction drawings and details, and verify drawing accuracy
  • Review CAD models with design engineers and implement adjustments
  • Conduct final model rendering and deliver final products
  • Provide technical assistance to design personnel on CAD-related issues

Skills Required

  • Advanced knowledge of CAD/GIS, AutoCAD 3D, Revit, SketchUp, and LiDAR design software
  • Proficient in 2D & 3D modeling
  • Knowledge of applicable codes (Building Code, NFPA) and regulations (city, state, and federal)
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with tactical execution
  • Strong professional and collaborative skills with experience working across diverse, distributed teams
  • Proactive and persistent with well-developed analytical skills
  • Detail-oriented with ability to drive complex tasks to completion
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including cross-cultural communication
  • Flexibility to accommodate occasional non-standard hours for India team collaboration
  • Proficient in MS Office

Education and Experience

  • CAD Degree or Certification (Associate Degree) or related engineering field associate degree
  • 5+ years of experience as a CAD Technician, preferably in civil land development design
  • Experience managing both local and remote employees and contractors
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally for team training and development
  • Working knowledge of site layout, topographic surveys, utility design, profiling, and grading
  • Experience in power generation installation and design, electrical systems and single line diagrams
  • Knowledge and proficiency in AutoCAD & SKM
