Job Description:

General Description:

Under general supervision, performs basic processing and microscopic evaluation of Cytology specimens.

Essential Responsibilities:

Responsibilities listed in this section are core to the position.  Inability to perform these responsibilities with or without an accommodation may result in disqualification from the position. 

  • Receives and prepares specimens for analysis according to specifications related to the type of specimen.  
  • Performs routine screening of Gyn and Non-Gyn Cytology specimens. 
  • Assists in the collection and processing of fine needle aspiration specimens.
  • Conducts quality control procedures as needed. 
  • Results and electronically signs out appropriate Cytology reports. 
  • Assists in the training of students and/or residents.

General Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in biological science and graduation from an accredited Cytotechnology training program required.

Experience: None required.

Licensure/Certifications/Registrations Required:

  • Eligible for registration as a Cytotechnologist (CT) or Specialist in Cytotechnology (SCT) with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) obtained within nine (9) months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  

  • Knowledge of laboratory principles and techniques and medical cytology terminology. 
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.
  • Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office tools.
