The Residence Life Coordinator for Desk Operations (RLC-DO) is responsible for supporting the desk operations across all residential communities. The RLC-DO serves on the professional staff team for the Department of Residence Life (“the Department”) and reports to the Associate Director of Residence Life. Responsibilities include understanding and stewardship of the residents, student staff, and supporting operations. The RLC-DO must possess excellent decision-making, organization, process management, and leadership skills.


This position is a 12-month live-in position that requires flexible scheduling designed to address participation in the on-call rotation throughout the year and during weekdays, weekends, and holidays including fall break, Thanksgiving break, winter break, and spring break. Additionally, this position may be called upon to support vacancies on our professional team and flex role responsibilities on a temporary basis.

The Office of Residence Life is a fast-paced, student-centered, collaborative environment that is growing to serve more students. We are an office of 15 professionals and 100+ student staff, who work hard to make Residence Life and the Mines campus a positive community for all students and for each other. We take our jobs very seriously, but don’t take ourselves too seriously.

A sense of humor and the ability to be adaptable are important for this role. A positive attitude and desire to contribute to a team and to the campus community are also imperative for this role. No single day looks the same, and often our carefully curated schedules get thrown out the window when opportunities to serve our students come up. Our work is important to the learning and growth of our students, and we must be adaptable to their needs.

Primary Responsibilities:

Recruitment, Selection, and Supervision of Student Desk Staff  

  • Oversee ongoing recruitment, selection, and hiring of student Desk Directors and Desk Assistants. 

  • Ensure staff are onboarded and hired utilizing Workday and other Mines Administrative Process Services (MAPS) requirements. 

  • Co-Supervise 7-10 Desk Directors and indirectly support the supervision of 50-70 Desk Assistants. 

  • Ensure desks are adequately staffed, schedules are accurate, and maintained. 

  • Assist with department-wide efforts to recruit, select, and train student and full-time staff.  

 

Training and Development of Desk Staff 

  • Facilitate regular training and development opportunities for Desk Directors and Desk Assistants.  

  • Support student learning and development of desk teams through educational corrective action as needed. 

  • Support and facilitate regular evaluation process for Desk Directors and Desk Assistants. 

 

Desk Operations Management 

  • Regularly review and update standard operating procedures for desk operations (e.g., key/access management, issuing packages and mail, recreation and programming equipment check-out, and opening/closing). 

  • Support a customer service and educational mindset, framed around Departmental Pillars, at the desks. 

  • Communicate with campus partners connected with desk operations (e.g., Distribution Services, BlasterCard Office, Custodial, and Facilities). 

 

On-Call and Crisis Response 

  • Serve as the on-call professional staff on campus in the on-call rotation for the Department.  

  • Serve as a case manager for student conduct cases. 

 

Additional Responsibilities:

Duties will include up to 15% of overall work and can change as deemed necessary by the Associate Director of Residence Life. Possible collateral duties include, but are not limited to, the following:  

  • Participate in department level committees, initiatives, and task forces including staff recruitment/selection, training and development, staff evaluations, etc.   

  • Serve on Campus Wide Committees and initiatives.    

  • Co-advise the Campus Student Living Association (CSLA).   

  • Professional development that contributes to your daily work and the department is supported and encouraged.

Interim Residence Life Coordinator Responsibilities:  

In the event of a vacancy on our Residence Life Coordinator Team, the RLC-DO will serve as interim Residence Life Coordinator for a residential community until a vacancy is filled (typically 2-6 months). These duties include supervision of Resident Advisors, advising community council, running staff meetings, and facilitating opening or closing. While serving in an interim capacity, primary position responsibilities will be modified. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree from an accredited four-year institution of higher education and experience working in an educational or community development environment.

  • A master’s degree from an accredited four-year institution of higher education in student affairs administration or a related field.
  • Degree must be completed by start of employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Experience working with college students in an educational setting as a paraprofessional or professional.
  • Experience working with college students in residential setting.
  • Experience supervising.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of student development theory.
  • Ability to utilize online platforms such as Maxient, eRezLife, StarRez, and/or Banner.

Salary and Benefits

$55,068 - $57,568 annual salary
