A Little About Us

We want to reimagine the Yahoo Weather experience across the company – from the Yahoo Weather apps to the Yahoo homepage. As millions of people use Yahoo Weather each day to understand how the weather will impact them, we believe that investing in a better product experience will help us fulfill Yahoo’s mission to be a trusted guide to online content and enable people to accomplish their goals no matter how big or small.

  • Collaboration: work closely with a team to design to define, build, and deliver new features in the Yahoo Weather apps and integrate weather into other Yahoo surfaces such as Home, News, Mail, and Search.

  • Code: you will spend most of your time writing code. This includes collaborating with client teams on feature development, optimizing how systems operate, reducing tech debt, investigating bug/crash fixes, and support

  • Performance Optimization: identify and implement strategies to enhance system performance and responsiveness as backend and client work progresses together

  • Communication: Share your opinions and help shape our technical direction, best practices, product ideas, and team processes. We value and depend on your input!

Skills & Experience:

  • 10+ years experience building and architecting high-performing and scalable frontend and backend systems

  • Full-stack experience across the frontend (building apps & UI components with React/Next.js), backend (building & maintaining services with Java, Node.js and/or Python), and databases (understanding of various database engines, hands-on experience with Redis desirable)

  • Experience as a tech lead with a track record of mentoring and knowledge sharing within and outside the team

  • Ability to build and maintain data pipelines, including data ingestion, data transformation, data understanding, and optimizing how data is presented to clients

  • Experience building location-based products, including the use of maps SDKs and APIs a plus

  • Knowledge and experience deploying to and building in AWS

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • The quintessential teammate – great communicator, adaptable, supportive, hard working, and enjoys a good laugh

  • An interest in weather and strong opinions about weather apps is a plus!
