In this role as a member of PJM’s Risk Underwriting Team, you will be accountable for the credit and liquidity risk management of an increasing portfolio of counterparts engaged in the PJM markets. Individuals in this role perform analytical modeling to assess and minimize PJM’s exposure to credit risk, perform counterparty credit risk assessment and scoring. The underwriting team performs fundamental credit risk assessments of counterparts across a diverse portfolio of counterparts including IOUs, IPPs, Cooperatives, Municipals, Financial Institution and Private Equity Firms. This position develops and implements best practices for credit underwriting approaches, monitors credit exposure across multiple market activity. In this role you will also be accountable for monitoring and identifying emerging market events, assess the impact to PJM counterparties and develop/recommend actions to be taken to derisk counterparty risk in PJM’s counterparty portfolio. Individuals in this position act as a key subject matter expert and contributes to the strategic objectives and risk management of the PJM.

Essential Functions:

  • Deliver fundamental credit risk analysis assessments of new applicants/existing market participants using PJM’s credit scoring model,

  • Recommend credit limits align with market activity and PJM governing documents

  • Manage a large portfolio of market participants  including exposure analysis, annual reviews, limit management, emerging market events  and de-risking solutions

  • Partner with the membership, cash management  and risk team to execute and enhance existing processes

  • Collaborate with a range of insurance companies / banks to ensure credit risk documents are in alignment with PJM tariff requirements

  • Develop and monitor credit weekly, daily and month-end reporting

  • Assist on presentations to Senior Management and Stakeholders

  • Analyze, highlight and report on top risks

  • Lead the coordination , maintenance and implementation of improved reporting and functionality of credit risk systems

  • Work in partnership with internal lines of business to perform root cause analysis to resolve self and stakeholder identified credit risk gaps

  • Mentor more junior members of the team

  • Act as a liaison between internal and external customers to troubleshoot and resolve issues

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Characteristics and Qualifications:
Required:

  • BS degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or equivalent work experience

  • At least 7 years of work experience as a team player with an ability to interact with both internal and external stakeholders across all levels of the organization

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast pace environment and exhibit sound judgement and problem solving skills

  • Ability to produce high-quality work products with attention to detail

  • Ability to communicate effectively in a team environment

  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis

  • Experience using verbal and written communications skills

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (MS-Word, MS-Excel and MS-PowerPoint)

Preferred

  • MBA, Business Administration

  • At least 4 years of experience working in a Credit Department with developing credit analysis reports

  • Experience with PJM operations, markets, and planning functions

  • Experience supporting any of PJM Committees

  • Experience with PJM Agreements and Tariffs
