What You’ll Do
Reporting to the Director, Risk Management, the Manager, Business Risk Management is responsible for developing and supporting the implementation and management of risk programs at Fidelity Investments Canada (FIC).
The manager will be involved in the continuing evolution of the risk program including the development of new programs and implementation across the organization, providing oversight, and reporting to senior management/various governance committees.
The manager will lead a team of Business Risk Analysts, together with the respective business unit senior executive, to oversee the business units responsibilities in meeting all the risk program requirements, including but not limited to Risk and Control Self-Assessments, Control Testing, Risk Events Management, and Ad-Hoc Risk Reviews.
How You’ll Make an Impact
Risk Programs and Oversight
Develop, implement, and maintain overall responsibility for the effective functioning of risk policies and programs with a goal of ensuring programs exist to identify, assess, measure and report on risk across the organization
Ensure programs are continually assessed and updated as appropriate
Policies and programs are regularly brought forward to the appropriate oversight body for review and approval
Oversee Business Risk Analysts, together with the respective business unit senior executive
Ad-Hoc Risk Assessments
Manages framework for risk assessments including the process for identification, documentation, and assessment of risks and controls
Train business risk team on program/framework requirements
Participates in risk reviews as required and collaborate with the business risk team to ensure proper execution of risk reviews
Ensure findings, action plans, and risk acceptance decisions are logged in the appropriate tool
Control Testing
Manages the framework for testing of controls and ensure control testing findings are socialized and appropriately tracked to closure.
Challenge action plans and risk acceptance decisions
Risk Event Management Framework
Manage and enhance risk event management framework
Provide oversight on risk event escalation metrics
Independently challenge root cause analysis and action plans
Leadership & People Management
Engage employees in establishing clear and measurable goals that achieve business results
Provide regular coaching and feedback to employees to meet business objectives and enhance individual performance
Risk Training, Consultation and Education
Provide transparency, awareness and promote strong risk management practices and principles across the organization through effective communication of polices and programs
Develop, maintain, and deliver effective training on risk programs and policies to FIC employees through a variety of mediums including online and face-to-face so that policies are understood, and that employees are equipped to recognize and escalate knowledge of material risks
Promote awareness to ensure that business understand their roles and responsibilities on risk management
Advocate for a strong risk culture within the business unit and drive change
What We’re Looking For
University degree or equivalent work experience
5+ years of relevant experience in Risk Management/Financial Service Industry
Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills
Strong knowledge of risk management processes, tools, and techniques for assessing and controlling an organization's exposure to risks
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment to defined deadlines and manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities
Knowledge of analytical techniques and tools and the ability to determine the root cause of problems and create alternative solutions that resolve problems in best interest of the business.
Able to work on own initiative and develop practical solutions
Strong written/verbal communication skill and ability to build rapport with others
Knowledge of financial services products, processes, and industry is an asset
Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to make sound decisions
Works independently and regularly handles non-routine situations
Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems
