Under the supervision of an inspector and the corrosion specialist you will work with a team of highly motivated professionals in an environment tailored to your needs. You will consolidate your technical knowledge while interacting with a multidisciplinary team of technicians and professionals.

Each inspector has specific tasks to complete to meet day-to-day requirements [corrosion monitoring (NDT), unit shutdown preparation and repair (NDT)], and we sometimes have emergencies and special projects to fill in the gaps. You'll be working with some of the most talented people in the energy industry, and your assignments and mentoring will help you make extraordinary academic and professional progress.

Minimum Requirements:

  • ​Current enrollment in a Bachelors of Materials/Metallurgical Engineering program at an accredited post-secondary institution

  • You must be returning to full-time studies after your work term

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

  • Excellent communication and professional skills

  • Attach your most recent transcripts with your application

  • Fluent in French – please submit your resume in French


Responsibilities:

  • Develop your knowledge in a heavy industry environment such as refining

  • Learn the codes and laws that govern us 

  • Understand and apply safety rules for our refinery

  • Participate in small projects (short and long term) to monitor material degradation related to our facilities, as required (sulfidation, wet H2S, HTHA, external corrosion, etc.).

  • Assist Suncor Inspector, Contract Inspector and Corrosion Specialist for corrosion follow-ups

  • X-ray verification

  • Analyze, compile, and classify data

  • Work with external contractors

  • Verify and collect data in the field with other inspectors and/or corrosion specialist


Location and other Key Details:

  • This is a 4 month work term starting in January 2025

  • This is an office-based role; you will work out of our Montréal office, located at 11701 Sherbrooke Street East

  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday

  • Learning environment surrounded by several disciplines (chemical, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, operation)

  • Teamwork atmosphere based on mutual support

  • Ability to work in harsh weather conditions and at heights
